CARLISLE, Pa. – The Ursinus softball team (4-6) got swept in Thursday's Centennial Conference doubleheader against Dickinson (4-4). The Bears fell 8-2 in game one before coming up a run short in game two, 2-1. It's the first time this season that Ursinus lost the back-half of a doubleheader.  

Game 1

Dickinson got on the board first in the bottom half of the opening frame with an RBI double to score one run.

After a quiet second inning, the Bears answered in the top half of the third. Julia Eckels reached on a fielder's choice and then it was Ally St. Jean who brought her home with a double to tie the score at one run apiece. A sac-fly from Heather Lazer brought St. Jean in to score, giving the Bears a 2-1 lead.

With a runner in scoring position, a single from Dickinson tied the score at two. The Red Devils then used a four-run fourth inning as the Bears fell behind 6-2. Dickinson added to its lead with two more runs in the sixth. 

The Bears recorded just one hit at the plate and only had three baserunners after scoring in the third. For the fifth time this season, Ursinus lost the front half of the doubleheader, 8-2.

Game 2

As they have done all year, the Bears would look to tough out game two of the Centennial Conference doubleheader and salvage a split. However, this time, they would come up just short.

The Red Devils picked up where they left off and remained hot in the circle to start game two. The Bears managed just three baserunners through the first four innings and were unable to record a hit.

Despite the struggles at the plate, Morgan Comfort was also in command in the circle. Dickinson's lone run in the second inning came off an error in the Ursinus outfield. The senior allowed just two hits through the game's first five innings and struck out two.

The Bears finally got a hit in the top of the fifth inning, and it paid off on the scoreboard. Delaney Baker singled to center field to start the inning and Comfort came up with a single of her own to put runners on first and second. Running for Baker, Amanda Panati scored on a well-placed hit from Mackenzie Brennan to tie the game.

The two teams continued the pitching battle through the sixth inning. Megan Hasulak advanced to third, but Baker grounded out to end the side.

Dickinson led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and then advanced the runner by stealing second. A single up the middle to center field brought the runner across the place and the Bears once again trailed by a run.

Ursinus would have one last chance to tie. However, a 1-2-3 inning ended the game as the Bears fell, 2-1.
