COLLEGEVILLE – The Ursinus Men's Track & Field team earned a first-place finish in the Collegeville Classic at the Floy Lewis Bakes Center on Saturday. The team earned a score of 137.50 in its first meet since December 10th to earn the mark at the top of the standings among 11 schools.
Freshman Brody Myers impressed once again on the pole vault as he earned his second first place finish of the season with a mark of 14-6.00. Senior Ken Sprankle followed in second to Myers as he did in the Bow Tie Invitational back in December after matching his mark set in that event at 12-5.50.
Junior Daniel Maloney took home first in the 60-meter hurdles on a time of 8.80 and spearheaded two Bears in the top five for the event with sophomore Devon Greaves coming in fourth on a time of 9.35. Senior Octavious Carter earned a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter dash after posting a time of 7.18.
Ursinus had another strong day in the throwing events as junior Isaiah Battle posted a pair of top-five finishes in the shot put and weight throw. Battle finished second in the weight throw on a mark of 51-6.25 ft. after finishing third in the shot put on a throw of 44-1.50 ft. Senior Nick Galbraith also posted top-fives in both throwing events with a third in the weight throw (48-4.00 ft.) and fifth in the shot put (41-6.50).
Freshman Trey Rolle and junior Tyler Ortiz each posted top-five finishes in the long jump with Rolle in fourth on a 19-4.25 ft. and Ortiz in fifth with a 18-11.25, respectively. Senior Tyler Reilly recorded a second place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.07, while freshman Christian Rosado registered a strong time of 2:05.00 in the 800-meter run and finished third in the race.
The Bears will return to action on Friday, January 28th as they will compete in the Little Dip Invitational hosted by Franklin & Marshall at 4 p.m.
