The Ursinus Bears Football Team will host McDaniel in Centennial Conference action on Friday night at Patterson Field.

Two weeks ago, the Bears were downed by No. 20 Susquehanna on the road, 17-12. After each team traded a field goal, the River Hawks took a 10-3 lead after running back a 28-yard pick-6. Susquehanna added to its lead to go up 17-3 in the second quarter The Bears added a field goal in the final minute of the first half before a touchdown brought Ursinus within 17-12 with just over three minutes left in regulation. The Bears seemingly got the break they needed when a fumbled snap gave them the ball with one last chance to score a go-ahead touchdown. Unfortunately for the Bears, an interception 4th down ended the comeback.

Meanwhile, the Green Terror defeated Dickinson 21-13 on their homecoming Saturday two weeks ago. McDaniel went up 12-3 at the half after the Red Devils kicked a field goal to open the scoring. Dickinson opened the second half with a touchdown to cut the deficit down to 12-10 before the Green Terror responded to go back up 18-10, taking advantage of multiple Dickinson turnovers. A field goal early in the fourth quarter made it a two-score game at 21-10 and McDaniel held on for the win by allowing just one field goal late in regulation.
LAST MEETING: Last season, The Bears escaped with an 18-14 win on the road. McDaniel held a 14-6 advantage into the fourth quarter before the Bears cut the McDaniel lead down to 14-12 with just over nine minutes left in the fourth quarter on a touchdown from Joshua Bowman. Ursinus forced another Green Terror turnover and Samuel Ragland gave the Bears the lead for good with a touchdown.

EYES ON ANOTHER RECORD: Senior quarterback Jack Psenicska continued to draw closer to setting another Ursinus football passing career record with his touchdown pass against Susquehanna. He now has 43 career touchdown passes which leaves him two away from tying former quarterback and teammate, Thomas Garlick, who has 45 career touchdown passes. He also sits 71 yards away from becoming the fourth player in program history to eclipse the 5,000 career passing yard plateau. He sits fourth all-time in passing yards with 4,929 and the record for career passing yards is 7,492 which is held by Garlick.

RING THE BELL: Senior defensive lineman Ethan Belville continues to be one of the most feared pass rushers in the Centennial Conference. However, Belville added to his game against Susquehanna by recording his first career interception. He stopped a River Hawk drive with his interception that advanced as far as the red zone. Belville is tied for fifth in the Centennial with 8.5 TFL and eighth with 2.5 sacks. He is also tied for the conference lead with two forced fumbles and recovered his first fumble of the season against Franklin & Marshall back on 9/24 on a strip sack.

FRESH PRINCE: Senior Kevin DePrince scored the Bears only touchdown against Susquehanna. His four-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter was his second touchdown reception of the season. He led the team with five catches against Susquehanna two weeks ago. Despite missing the Franklin & Marshall game, DePrince leads the Bears with 19 receptions on the season and has 157 receiving yards.

LINEMAN PICKER: Senior defensive lineman Sean Leyden also recorded his first collegiate interception against Susquehanna and became the second defensive lineman in the game to record an interception. Leyden has also recorded a fumble recovery for the Bears this season as he consistently rotates in the Bears defensive line. Leyden has two tackles on the season so far for Ursinus.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: Friday's game will be the fourth night game at Patterson Field in the history of the Ursinus football program. The Bears are 3-1 in those games with the most recent being a 42-6 win over Alvernia to open the 2021 season. Ursinus owns home night game wins over TCNJ in 2013 (28-20) and Susquehanna in 2012 (36-0). Since dropping a 24-17 decision to Albright in the first Patterson night game in the 2011 opener, the Bears have won six-straight night games overall which included a five OT win over Division II Millersville in their 2015 opener on a Thursday night

PIN THEM DEEP: Senior punter and tight end Billy Cook has been having a knack this season for pinning teams deep in their own territory. Cook leads the Centennial Conference with 11 punts landing inside the 20-yard line after nailing a pair against Susquehanna. Cook also ranks second in the Centennial Conference at 39.7 yards per punt after recording a career-best 45.6 average against the River Hawks.

SCOUTING THE GREEN TERROR: Sophomore Eric Grinwis mans the Green Terror offense as he ranks fifth in the Centennial by averaging 177.4 yards per game through the air. He has 887 yards passing while throwing four touchdowns and six interceptions. Senior running back Trent Gaskins leads the team on the ground with 232 yards and is tied for second in the conference with five rushing touchdowns. He scored all five touchdowns in the first two games of the season with three coming in their season opener against Catholic. Junior wide receiver Hunter Sigler has emerged as one of the top targets for Grinwis this season as he ranks fifth in the Centennial with 315 receiving yards and caught his first two touchdown passes of the season two weeks ago against Dickinson. Senior wide receiver Sean Carter ranks second on the team with 240 receiving yards.

On defense, the Green Terror have been solid against the pass so far this season as they rank second in the Centennial Conference by allowing just 180.8 yards per game through the air. McDaniel ranks just ahead of the Bears in fifth in total yards allowed at 328.6. Junior defensive lineman Mamut Conteh is tied for second in the Centennial with 3.5 sacks and with 10 TFL. Freshman defensive end Aiden Bell is tied with Belville and junior Ryan Bodolus for the conference lead with two forced fumbles and is tied for sixth with three sacks. Sophomore defensive back Alex Brown leads the team with 37 total tackles. Senior defensive back Earl Spicer and junior defensive back Jevin Tranquillo each have two interceptions for the Green Terror this season to lead the team. Spicer snatched both of his interceptions against Dickinson two weeks ago.
