Women's Wrestling Battles Rutgers in Dual Meet

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's wrestling team battled with Rutgers University on Saturday afternoon from the Floy Lewis Bakes Center. The Bears won three of the five matches as senior Elizabeth Grace Harris earned her first career victory in the meet.

"I want to thank the Rutgers Women's Wrestling team for coming down today," Director of Wrestling Joe Jamison said. "Our scheduled opponent had to pull out of our dual midweek and Rutgers stepped up on very short notice. All of our girls wrestled incredibly tough today and they continue to make incredible progress. We improve with every match and today was a banner day for us as we celebrated the start of our program. Kalli and Jocelyn continue to raise the stakes and as our other wrestlers return from injury next week it'll be exciting to see where we can go."

The dual meet opened at 128lbs as sophomore Lauren Gherman fell via a fall at the 1:45 mark of the period. Her opponent Jordan Warner capitalized on an early double-leg takedown and collected the victory after a single leg takedown.

First-year Kalli Roskos earned a fall at the 4:18 mark of the second period to improve her season record to 2-1. In the early part of the first period Roskos fought off a deep single leg and almost earned a takedown, but a stall mate kept the score tied. She earned the first take down with time running down in the first period after snapping down and spinning behind her opponent. In the second period, after collecting a double leg she lifted her opponent up and returned her to her back as she collected the pinfall.

First-year Jocelyn Lass followed suit earning a tech-fall at the 2:20 mark over Rutgers' Jordan Warner. Lass jumped out to an early lead after a nifty four-point move led to a cement mixer for more back points. She almost earned a pin after turning Wagner via a headlock.

Harris won her first match of the season via a 14-12 decision over Rutgers' Brianna Felipe. Harris fell behind 6-0 early in the first period, but two reversals late in the period gave her an 8-6 heading into the second. Felipe earned a quick takedown in the second but a counter throw by Harris made the score 10-8. With the match tied 12-12 with under a minute to go, Harris battled out of a headlock from Felipe in neutral position for a takedown and fought off a late shot attempt for the victory.

Sophomore Laura Bradley fell in the finale at 136lbs as Rutgers Daniela Tacuri earned a pin at the 1:13 mark of the first period. Tacuri earned the first takedown with a sweep single, and a quick turn gave her a 4-0 lead just 30 seconds into the match. Bradley fell after a successful "fireman's carry" led to a near-sided half for the pin.

The Bears will return to action on December 4th as they travel to Erie, Pennsylvania for the Northeast Regional Duals.
