PRINCETON, N.J. – A historic afternoon for the Ursinus College women's wrestling team as they opened their inaugural season at the Princeton Open on Sunday.
"The coaching staff is incredibly proud of how we competed today," Director of Wrestling
Joe Jamison said. "It was the first college competition for all of them, and the first time competing ever for half of them. Coming away with a few wins and putting some points on the board is a great start. We know we have work to do but there was a lot of positives today and the team is looking forward to getting back to work."
First-year
Jocelyn Lass opened for Ursinus at 116lbs and recorded her first collegiate victory after a 10-0 victory by superiority over Rider's Jesenia Camargo. In the quarterfinals, Lass fell by superiority to Presbyterian's Ainslie Lane and ended her day in the consolations after a 12-2 VSU defeat.
Sophomore
Lauren Gherman had an impressive opening match after losing a tight 8-6 battle with NYC Regional Training Center's Chelsea Marcelle. In the consolations Gherman lost via a fall to Crisia Bonilla. At 136lbs, sophomore
Laura Bradley went 1-2 including a fall in the consolations over Olivia Deming in just under two minutes. Senior
Elizabeth Grace Harris finished 0-2 in her first collegiate matches as she fell by fall to the eventual champion at 191lbs MIT's Sarah Sams in her opening match.
The Bears will return to action on Sunday hosting their home opener in a dual meet with Alvernia University.
