Late Comeback Stuns Baseball at Immaculata

Box Score

IMMACULATA, PA. - The Bears jumped out to an early lead on the road but four late runs from Immaculata gave the Mighty Macs their eighth consecutive victory on Wednesday afternoon. Junior right hander Casey Murphy turned in five innings of three-hit baseball and only allowed one earned run in his fifth start of the season.

In the second inning, Peter Balos led off with a free pass and advanced to second via a wild pitch. Matteo Falcone and Jared Minnichbach each walked to load the bases for Dylan Runsdorf. Balos scored after Runsdorf reached base via a fielder's choice, and after an Immaculata error, the Bears led 2-0. Jakob Cantor brought home Runsdorf after a sacrifice fly to left field for the 3-0 lead.

Murphy was in a grove on the mound, retiring the side in order in the second after two flyouts and a strikeout. The Mighty Macs answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the third after Frank Margiotta scored on a Bears error with two outs.

In the fifth, after Immaculata's first two batters reached base, a sacrifice bunt from Joey Wright moved both runners into scoring position. The Mighty Macs made it a 3-2 game after a sacrifice fly from Josh Crowding brought home Margiotta from third. Murphy was lifted after the fifth inning, he faced 23 batters and recorded four walks and three strikeouts.

Immaculata scored three runs in the seventh inning after three hits, an error, and two walks. They added an insurance run in the eighth inning and Mason Keller earned the save in relief after closing out the game in the ninth.

The Bears were led by Solomon Griffith and Jakob Cantor at the plate, combining for five hits and one RBI.

David Kratz earned the loss after just pitching one inning and allowing two earned runs, meanwhile Matt Tuley finished out the game on the mound for the Bears pitching two innings and striking out two.

The Bears will return to action tomorrow as they travel to Rutgers-Camden for a non-conference game starting at 3:30.
