Snyder Shines as Baseball Splits with McDaniel

COLLEGEVILLE, PA. - T.J. Snyder was excellent on the mound, while Solomon Griffith led the charge at the plate, as the Ursinus College baseball team used a 4-2 victory in game one for a series split with McDaniel College. The Bears and Green Terror squared off for a Centennial Conference matchup from Thomas Field on Saturday as McDaniel took game two by a score of 13-3.  

With the split, the Bears now sit at 10-17 on the season and 3-5 in Centennial Conference play. Meanwhile, McDaniel moved to 17-15 overall and 2-8 in conference action.

Snyder took to the bump in game one and turned in a stellar performance pitching six innings, allowing four hits and just two earned runs while striking out five batters. McDaniel jumped on the board first, as Shane Daly lifted a solo homerun to left center in the third inning for a 1-0 lead.  

Ursinus tied the game at one a piece in the fourth inning as Eric Greenwald singled to second base and Griffith scored from third after a wild throw by the McDaniel defense. The Green Terror regained the lead in the fifth as McDaniel's Connor Uhrig homered to right centerfield for a 2-1 edge. The Bears answered with three runs in the bottom half to jump out to a 4-2 advantage. Jordan Williams scored on a wild pitch and Griffith drove in Dylan Crammer after a single to right center. Later in the inning, with two outs junior Nick Diaz delivered with a single down the third base line scoring Griffith from second.  

The bullpen closed the door in game one, as David Morgan, David Kratz, and Casey Murphy combined to pitch three innings while only allowing two hits and fanning three batters. Murphy earned his first career save recording the final out of the game via a strikeout.

The Green Terror bounced back in game two as they scored runs in seven innings and used 20 hits for their second conference win of the season. Dylan Runsdorf led the Bears at the plate going 2 for 3 with a run scored.  

Ursinus trailed 4-0 in the second inning before Matteo Falcone blasted a homerun to right centerfield to cut their deficit to just three. McDaniel answered with four runs over the next two innings and held an 8-1 advantage before Crammer had an infield single scoring Falcone from third.  

The Bears were only able to add one more run in the contest after Jared Minnichbach reached base via an error in the sixth, scoring Runsdorf from third. The Green Terror were able to strand 11 Bears baserunners as they outscored Ursinus 4-0 over the final three innings for a 13-3 victory. 

The Bears will return to action on Tuesday as they host Swarthmore in Centennial Conference action from Thomas Field.
