BALTIMORE, MD. - Freshman lefty Kieran Hollander was dominant on the mound in game two on Saturday afternoon as he kept the Blue Jays bats off balance, leading to the Bears first conference win of the season. Ursinus fell 14-2 in game one of the Centennial Conference doubleheader but earned the split after a 3-2 victory in the nightcap.  

Game One: Johns Hopkins 14 Ursinus 2  

The Bears jumped on the board in the top of the first inning after Tom Snipes singled, driving in Jakob Cantor. T.J. Snyder took the mound for Ursinus and was only able to pitch 2.2 innings before being relieved. Hopkins was able to score two runs in the second and added three more in the third for a 5-1 edge after three innings of play.  

Blue Jays starter Kieren Collins settled in after allowing two hits in the first inning. The junior righty pitched five innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run as he fanned five Bears. Johns Hopkins exploded for seven runs in the 5th inning behind a three-run homerun from Jack Pausic and held a 13-run advantage through five innings.  

After a homerun from Hopkins' Shawn Steuer in the sixth inning, the Bears were able to scratch a run across in the seventh after Jordan Williams grounded out to third, allowing Peter Balos to score.  

Cantor led the Bears in game one going 2 for 4, while Solomon Griffith, Tom Snipes, and Tim Pyne each added a hit.  

Game Two: Johns Hopkins 2 Ursinus 3  

A different story in game two as Bears starter Kieran Hollander earned his first win of the season after going 7.2 innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs, and four strikeouts. Hollander was in a grove early on and didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning.  

Ursinus jumped on the board in the fifth inning after Pyne lifted a sacrifice fly out left field bringing home Balos from third. The Bears added two insurance runs in seventh after Matteo Falcone blasted his first homerun of the season and Pyne drove in Nick Diaz after a single to right center. The Bears held a 3-0 advantage, before Matthew Coop homered for Hopkins to make the score 3-2 in the eighth.  

David Morgan earned his first save of the season, after relieving Hollander in the eighth and closing out the ninth without allowing a baserunner. Dylan Crammer and Nick Diaz led the Bears at the plate going 2-4, while Pyne went 1-3 with two RBI's. 

The Bears will return to action on Tuesday for a Centennial Conference matchup with Franklin & Marshall at 3:30 PM.
