Men's Tennis Winning Streak Snapped at Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. - The Ursinus Bears men's tennis team was downed by Salisbury by a scored of 8-1 in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.

 

 With the loss, the Bears fell to 6-3 overall and saw their five-match winning streak snapped. Meanwhile the Sea Gulls, who are ranked #12 by the ITA in the South Region, improved to 7-6 overall.

 

Salisbury took all three of the doubles points to take an early 3-0 lead in the match. At the first doubles spot, Salisbury's Brad Pappalardo and Gianluca Beaujon defeated the Bears sophomore duo of Lars Jespersen and Will Oberholtzer 8-1 to gain the first point of the match. Junior Noah Mandel and sophomore Ethan Yu were downed 8-2 in the No. 3 doubles spot by Russell Willenborg and Gavin Reagle while the sophomore duo of Rob Ritchie and Darby Rogers were edged 8-7 at the No. 2 doubles spot to Mitchell Desman and Christopher Catan after holding a 7-5 lead.

 

 

In singles, Jespersen highlighted the Bears day by earning a dramatic 3-6, 5-7, (10-5) win over Pappalardo at the No 1 spot. Reagle opened the singles action by defeating Mandel at the No. 5 position 6-2, 6-0 and Jhayden Pappas downed Yu 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles to clinch the match for the Sea Gulls. Ritchie was bested by Willenborg 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and Beaujon took down Oberholtzer 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. Catan won 6-2, 6-3 over Rogers at No. 4 singles before Jespersen earned the last point for the Bears

 

 

 The Bears will return to action Wednesday, April 6th as they will take on Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference action at 4 p.m.
