FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – A pair of Ursinus Women's Tennis student-athletes opened the 2022 fall season for the team at the ITA Southeast Regionals this weekend at Mary Washington.
Sophomore
Shannon Stewart had an impressive weekend at the regionals as she advanced to the Blue E final behind a pair of wins. Stewart opened singles play with an 8-3 win over Amber Manspeaker of St. Mary's (Md.) on Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals and followed in the evening by taking down Elizabeth Coligan of Salisbury, 8-0. Stewart succumbed to Amelie Brune of Averett in the finals on Saturday afternoon by a score of 8-2.
Sophomore
Allie Armour competed in the champ bracket at the regionals and fell 6-4, 6-1 to Rebecca Stapleman of Mary Washington in the round of 64. Armour then suffered an 8-2 setback to Tessa Trate of Christopher Newport on Saturday morning in the first consolation round.
The duo teamed up to compete in the Blue C doubles bracket and were defeated 8-3 in the quarterfinal round to the Stevens duo of Isabella Dona and Polina Odintseva. Armour and Stewart bounced back by defeating Malena Hoover and Grace Knighton of Bridgewater by a set.
The team plays their dual match on Wednesday, September 28th as they will host Immaculata at 4:30 p.m.
