COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – First-years
Jocelyn Lass (116lbs) and
Kalli Roskos (123lbs) each collected a second-place finish in their respective weight classes, leading the Ursinus College women's wrestling team to a tied for third finish at Will Abele Open on Sunday afternoon.
"I thought our women wrestled great today," Director of Wrestling
Joe Jamison said. "We will always have things that we need to work on, but overall, their were a lot of positives that outweighed the negatives. When you don't get the result, you want it's hard to see improvement when you're in the thick of things. As we continue to move forward, it's important that we continue to believe in our process and know that the adjustments we are making pay off in the end.
Lass the No. 1 seed in the 116lb bracket opened her day with back-to-back victories via pinfalls as she advanced to the semi-finals with a fall over Buctown's Allsa Safforld at the 4:32-mark. In the semifinals, leading 13-4, she recorded second pin of the tournament over East Stroudsburg's Natalle Dunn at the 4:23-mark. In the finals, a rematch from the East Stroudsburg Duals last week, Lass dropped the match by superiority to Emily Klein of East Stroudsburg.
Roskos the No. 3 seed finished with a 2-1 record in the 123lb bracket. She opened with a victory by superiority (10-0) over Olivia Horninger of Cedar Crest to advance to the semifinals. In her semifinal match against Delaware Valley's Bridgette Schoultz, she avenged a 4-2 loss from her first match this season, defeating Schoultz by superiority (10-0) to advance to the finals. Schoultz a national qualifier last season is currently ranked third in the region at 123lbs. In the finals, Roskos lost by a 14-8 decision to East Stroudsburg's Mia Macaluso.
Jamison added "Both Jocelyn and Kalli had some inspiring performances today. It was awesome to see Kalli avenge that loss against a national qualifier from earlier in the season. She wrestled really well today, and we learned a lot in her finals match against Macaluso."
Senior

Calista Kolmer, and first-year
