STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Ursinus Men's Track & Field team opened its 2023-24 season at the Fasttrack National Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon that featured schools from all three NCAA Divisions.
Sophomore
Aiden Tobin highlighted the day by winning the 200 meters on an indoor school record time of 22.21. Tobin topped
Tyler Reilly's previous mark of 22.44 set at the VMI Classic in 2022 and led a 1-2 finish with
Daniel Tabor, who was running unattached. Tabor also topped Reilly's mark and was edged on his time of 22.22.
Sophomore
Liam Johnston led seven Bears in the top-12 of the 3,000 meters by winning the race with a time of 8:47.52 that nearly took down the school record. Senior
Tucker McGrath finished fourth with his time of 8:55.71 and sophomore
Zachary Cosme placed sixth with his time of 9:05.26. Sophomore
Ryan Martin finished eighth at 9:08.23 while senior
Will Gillette (10th-9:10.10), and juniors
Paul Faggioli (11th-9:14.72) plus
Christian Rosado (12th-9:15.29) rounded out the Bears in the 3k.
In throws, junior
Tom Wood won the shot put behind his personal best throw of 14.95 meters. Junior
Chase Shaneman and Wood earned top-10 finishes in the weight throw as Shaneman was fourth overall and highest among Division III throwers on his personal best throw of 14.98 meters. Wood placed seventh with a personal best mark of 13.78 meters.
Junior
Devon Greaves had an impressive showing in the 500 meters by finishing third with his time of 1:07.06 which was the highest among Division III athletes in the race. Senior
Collin Ney placed fourth in the 400 meters after crossing the line at 50.11.
Junior
David Kenny finished fifth overall in the 800 meters on his time of 1:58.75 and first-year
Troy Hedrick earned a strong sixth place finish in the mile with his time of 2:14.37.
In relays, the 4x400 team of Tobin, Greaves, Ney, and junior
Mason Jolivette placed third on their time of 3:21.29
The Bears return to action on Friday, December 8th as they will host the annual Bow Tie Invitational starting at 4:00 p.m.
