BOSTON, Mass. - The Ursinus men's indoor track and field team got their turn in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on the campus of Boston University starting Saturday morning. The Bears continued to compete against Division I, II, and III schools in the two-day non-scoring meet that first featured the women's teams on Friday.
Three school records were topped, and one was matched on Saturday in Boston. The 4x400 relay team of seniors
Daniel Tabor and
Payton Stanziani, junior
Collin Ney, plus sophomore
Devon Greaves took down both the Ursinus and Centennial Conference school record in the process with their time of 3:17.13. The time was just over two full seconds faster than the previous record 3:19.36 set last season set by Tabor, Ney, Stanziani, and
Tyler Reilly. Junior
Tucker McGrath topped the one-week old school record in the mile behind his time of 4:20.92.
Ney also matched the 400 meter dash school record of 49.63 that was set by Reilly last season and now holds the fastest time in the Centennial Conference for the event. Ney edged Stanziani by .3 seconds in a very competitive race. Greaves and junior
Dolan Cox also recorded a career best times of 50.45 and 51.53 in the 400, respectively.
There was one final women's race on Saturday, the Distance Medley Relay, and the Bears group of seniors Rachel Conhoff, Holly Chambers, junior Brooke Adams, and sophomore Meghan Carroll topped their school record from last year by nearly seven seconds behind their time of 12:24.09.
In the 200 meter dash, Tabor led five Bears in the race and topped his previous Centennial best time after crossing the line at 22.45. Freshman
Aiden Tobin followed with a season best time of 22.49 and sophomore
Mason Jolivette recorded a time of 23.12, also a career best. Cox and junior
Michael Agbeye continued the career best time trend with finishes of 23.79 and 23.94, respectively. Senior
Daniel Maloney set a new season best time in the 60 meter high hurdles with his mark of 8.58.
Freshman
Liam Johnston paced four Bears in the 800 meters with a new season best time of 1:57.04 and classmate
Ryan Martin set a new season best as well with a 1:59.10. Sophomore
Christian Rosado crossed the line at 2:00.08 and sophomore
Jack Fisher posted a career best time of 2:00.90.
In field events, senior
Isaiah Battle recorded throws of 57-7 ft. in the weight and 45-3.75 ft. in the shot put. Freshman
Cole Jackson recorded a mark of 42-8.75 in the triple jump while classmate
David Piotrowski cleared the bar at 5-8.5 ft. in the high jump.
Ursinus will return to action on Saturday, February 18th as they will compete in their final regular season indoor meet at Haverford's Keogh Invitational starting at 10:30 a.m. The throwing events will be held on Friday, February 17th at the Floy Lewis Bakes Center starting at 4:00 p.m.
