HAVERFORD, Pa. – In their final meet before Centennial Conference Championships next week, the Ursinus Men's Track & Field team showed well at the Keogh Invitational hosted by Haverford on Saturday.
The Bears competed against five different schools from either the Greater Philadelphia area or the Centennial Conference in the meet.
Senior
Isaiah Battle won the weight throw that was held at the Floy Lewis Bakes Center on Friday afternoon with a top throw of 56-9.5 ft. He led a 1-2 Ursinus finish in the event with classmate
Tim Holzapfel who recorded a throw of 53 ft. Sophomores
Chase Shaneman and
Tom Wood rounded out the top-five in fourth and fifth place with throws of 45-9 ft. and 44-9.75 ft., respectively. Battle placed second in the shot put behind his career best throw of 48-5.25 ft. Ursinus had five of the seven top place finishers in the shot put as Wood finished third with his mark of 44-4.25 ft., senior
Pat Patterson-Zuber placed fourth with a 41-6.5 ft. throw, and Holzapfel recorded a fifth place finish on his mark of 41-5.25 ft. Junior
Eric Tanz recorded a career-best throw of 38-11.5 ft. to finish seventh overall for the shot put.
Sophomore
Evan Mitchell took the pole vault after clearing the bar at 12-5.5 ft. and freshman
Sean Bowers finished third with his mark of 9-0.25 ft. Freshman
Noah Berger led three Bears in the long jump with a fifth-place finish on his mark of 17-11 ft.
Sophomore
Tyler Wilson highlighted the sprints with a fourth place finish in the 400 meters behind his time of 53.12. Six Bears competed in the 60-meter hurdles with five setting career best times, led by freshman
Eddie Weick in third place with a time of 9.96. Classmate
Ethan Staurowsky followed in fourth with a time of 10.20, Bowers came in fifth with a time of 10.61, freshman
Logan Yanoff placed sixth with his mark of 10.71, and sophomore
Ethan Chambers in seventh with a time of 10.79.
In distance, Freshman
AJ Luthra paced the Bears in the mile with a career best time of 4:39.32 and junior
Will Gillette finished third in the 3,000-meters behind his career best time of 9:29.86.
The Bears begin competition at the 2023 Centennial Conference Indoor Championships which will be hosted by Franklin & Marshall. First competition begins Saturday, February 25th at 11:00 a.m.
