LANCASTER, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Track & Field team wrapped up a dynamic showing at the 2023 Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday by adding four more gold medals to their tally on day two.
The Bears bested their previous program record by registering 178 points as a team to record its third-straight runner up finish and sixth runner-up finish overall in the Championship meet. Ursinus was 82 points over third place McDaniel who scored 96.5 points and Dickinson in fourth with 65 points. The Bears battled back and forth all day with Johns Hopkins for the Centennial crown before the Blue Jays locked up the conference title by finishing six runners in the top eight of the 3,000 meters. Ursinus took home nine medals on Sunday with four of them being gold. For the weekend, the Bears earned 15 medals as a team behind six golds, six silvers, and three bronze.
Senior
Daniel Tabor finished off a career weekend by winning his first individual gold medal in the 400 meters with his time of 50.06. He edged teammate,
Payton Stanziani, for gold in an exciting battle that saw Stanziani just behind at 50.39. He then won his second-straight gold medal in the 4x400 relay as his team of junior
Collin Ney, junior
Devon Greaves and Stanziani posted a Centennial Indoor Championship record time of winning-time of 3:21.37 that was set in 2002 by Gettysburg. Tabor finished the weekend with a combined total of 38 points behind his three gold medals and silver in the 200 meter dash that he recorded a time of 22.51 on. His efforts earned him Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship Most Outstanding Men's Track Performer.
Senior
Daniel Maloney broke through to win gold in the 60-meter hurdles for the first time in his collegiate career after recording three-straight silver medals. Maloney narrowly edged McDaniel's Tyren Proctor with his time of 8.37, avenging his defeat to him in the 2022 Indoor Championships.
Freshman
Markel Roberts-Jackson had a breakout performance on the high jump as he claimed gold after clearing the bar at a career best 6-1.5 ft. He led a 1-2 Ursinus freshman finish in the event as
David Piotrowski earned silver with his career-high jump of 5-11.5 ft.
Senior
Isaiah Battle earned his first indoor shot put medal as he finished second in the event behind his career best throw of 51-2.25 ft. Sophomore
Tom Wood finished sixth with a career-high mark of 45-5.75 ft. and senior
Pat Patterson-Zuber finished eighth to earn a point for the Bears with his throw of 44 ft.
Freshman
Logan Yanoff earned the bronze medal in the Heptathlon after compiling 3,714 points while sophomore
Ethan Chambers finished fourth with 3,624 points and freshman
Sean Bowers placed sixth with 3,488 points.
Freshman
Liam Johnston rounded out the top-five in the 800 meters with his time of 1:58.06 and junior
Tucker McGrath followed in sixth with a time of 1:58.09.
The Bears will return to action on Friday, March 3rd as they will compete at the two-day AARTFC Championship hosted by the New York City Armory beginning at 11 a.m.
