Men's Track & Field Tallies School Record Indoor All-CC Selections

LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior Isaiah Battle was named the Centennial Conference Men's Indoor T&F Field Athlete of the Year as the Ursinus Men's Track & Field saw an indoor school record 18 student-athletes take home 24 All-Conference nods for their performances at the Centennial Indoor Championships, announced by the conference on Thursday.

The 4x200-meter relay unit of freshman Aiden Tobin, junior Collin Ney, senior Daniel Tabor, and sophomore Mason Jolivette along with the 4x400-meter relay team of junior Devon Greaves, Ney, Tabor, and senior Payton Stanziani joined Battle in the weight throw, freshman high jump champion Markel Roberts-Jackson, Tabor's title in the 400 meters, and senior Daniel Maloney in the 60-meter hurdles on the all-conference first team, which is reserved for gold medal winners.

Second team honorees included Stanziani (400 meter dash), Tabor (200 meter dash), sophomore Evan Mitchell (Pole Vault), freshman David Piotrowski (high jump), Battle (shot put), senior Tim Holzapfel (weight throw), and the 4x800 relay team of Stanziani, sophomore Christian Rosado, junior Tucker McGrath, and freshman Liam Johnston.

Sophomore Ken Komatsu in the pole vault and freshman Logan Yanoff in the Heptathlon rounded out the Bears honorees on the honorable mention team.

Battle wrapped up his case for indoor field athlete of the year following a medalist-winning weekend in the throwing events. He successfully defended his weight throw title with a winning throw of 59-1 ft. that topped the Ursinus, Centennial Conference, and Centennial Conference Indoor Championship Meet record that he already owned. It was the fourth-straight gold medal in the event for the Bears and his first of two medals for the weekend. Battle followed the next day by earning a silver in the shot put, his first ever medal for the event indoors, on a mark of 51-2.25 ft. that was a career best. Battle's weight throw mark is the second best in the metro region while his shot put mark is third-highest.

Tobin, Jolivette, Ney, and Tabor kept the Bears dynasty in the 4x200 relay going by shattering both the Ursinus school and Centennial Indoor Championship record on a time of 1:30.54 for the program's fourth-straight gold in the event. Tabor and Ney were also on the 2022 gold medalist winning team in the event. The 4x400 crew of Greaves, Ney, Tabor, and Stanziani posted a Centennial Indoor Championship record time of 3:21.37 to win the Bears fourth-straight gold in that relay as well.

Tabor stole the show on the track at the championship meet by earning gold in the 400 meters for the first time in his career with his time of 50.06. He earned silver in the 200 meters to complete his weekend of four garnered medals that earned him the Men's Indoor T&F Most Outstanding Track performer accolade for the Centennial Championship meet.

Maloney won a photo finish in the 60-meter hurdles to earn his first gold medal in the event for his collegiate career. He avenged his defeat to McDaniel's Tyren Proctor in the 2022 Championships by recording a time of 8.37 that was .1 off from matching his school record. His time bolstered him to the third-fastest in the metro region for the event.

Roberts-Jackson made a statement in his first Centennial Indoor Championships by winning the high jump at 6-1.5 ft. It was the first indoor high jump title for the Bears since Darius Jones won back-to-back golds in 2013 and 2014. Piotrowski followed Roberts-Jackson in an impressive showing to earn the silver medal on his career-high jump of 5-11.5 ft.

Holzapfel earned his first indoor medal by taking silver in the weight throw to Battle behind his throw of 53-9 ft. and was the team's All-Sportsmanship representative as well. Stanziani recorded his third silver medal at the indoor championships in the 400 after posting a time of 50.39 and was a member of the 4x800 relay team with Johnston, Rosado, and McGrath that took home silver. Mitchell garnered his first collegiate medal in the pole vault behind his mark of 13-11 ft. and Komatsu took home the bronze after clearing the bar at 13-5 ft. Yanoff impressed in the Heptathlon by earning the bronze medal after garnering 3,714 points at his first career Centennial Indoor Championships.

The Bears will send select athletes to compete in the AARTFC Championships starting Friday, March 3rd at 11:00 a.m. that will be held at the New York City Armory.
