Men's Golf Places Ninth at Golden Oaks Invitational

FLEETWOOD, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's golf team wrapped up their two-round tournament at the Golden Oaks Golf Club by finishing in ninth place at Golden Oaks Invitational on Monday evening.  
 

The Bears shot their best round of the meet and lowest season total by combing for a 313 on the day. Ursinus combined for a final tally of 655 after shooting a 342 over the first day of competition. Drew University won the team title tallying a final team score of 574, Hood College (603) placed second, while Albright College (611) and Arcadia University (611) tied for third place.

 
Five Bears competed at the Golden Oaks Golf Club, a par-72 course that stretches over 6,492-yards. The Ursinus team score of 313 marks as their lowest combined round since scoring a 270 at the Bloomsburg Invitational in April of 2022.

 
Junior Billy Breslin paced the Bears lineup during day two finishing with a career-low score of 76 and placing tied for 29th overall. He recorded three birdies over his first six holes, before closing out the back-nine by earning par on six of the nine holes. Breslin's previous career-low of 81 occurred at the Turtle Creek Intercollegiate last season.

 
Sophomore Brandon Mongan finished tied for 36th behind shooting a career-low 78 after signing for an 87 on Monday. Mongan's round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 fifth hole and a birdie on the par-4 18th. His previous low occurred at the DuPont Country Club last season during the Northeast Shootout when he signed for an 84.

 
Junior Jimmy Cage and sophomore Trevor Maden also tied Mongan with a final tally 165 earning a tie for 36th overall. Cage signed for a career-low 77, while Maden added a career low as well with an 82. Cage totaled nine pars throughout his round and collected three consecutive birdies on the par-4 7th, par-5 8th, and par-3 ninth to close out the front nine with a one-under 35. Maden tallied six pars over the first nine holes and recorded a one-over 37, before closing out his evening with a 45 over the final nine holes.

 
First-year Aidan Bonczek rounded out the five Bears competing by finishing tied for 46th overall behind a final tally of 88. Bonczek's round marked as a career-low and was highlighted by birdies on the par-5 fifth hole and the par-4 16th hole. He closed out the tournament with six pars over the final day and earned a 44 on each side of the clubhouse.  
 

The Bears will return to action on Wednesday, October 2nd as they compete at the Birdie Bash hosted by Flanders Valley Golf Course.
