FLANDERS, N.J. – Behind their second lowest total this season, the Ursinus College men's golf team earned an eighth-place finish at the Birdie Bash hosted by Drew University on Wednesday afternoon.
Five Bears competed at the Flanders Valley Golf Course; a par-72 course that stretches over 6,762-yards. Drew University won the team title behind a final score of 298, while Scranton University finished in second place with a team total of 299. Drew's "C" Team (308) and Stevens University tied for third place with Kean University (315) rounding out the top-five teams. Ursinus combined for a final team tally of 330 (+42) earning an eighth-place finish.
Junior
Billy Breslin paced the Bears lineup by finishing just three shots shy of his career low, signing for a 79, and placing 22nd overall. Breslin opened his round by earning bogey over the first three holes, before bouncing back with a birdie on the par-3 4th hole. He collected his second birdie on the par-5 6th hole and closed out his front nine with a four-over 40. Breslin totaled four pars over the back nine and added a birdie on the par-4 14th hole to close out the back nine with a 39 (+3).
Sophomore
Brandon Mongan tied for 30th overall as he signed for a 10-over 82. He opened with a birdie on the par-4 first hole, recorded four pars over the first nine hole and entered the back-nine with a five-over 41. On the back nine, Mongan collected five pars including three straight from holes 16 though 18 to finish with a 41.
Sophomore
Trevor Maden tied for 38th overall after finishing with an 11-over 83. He earned nine pars throughout the round including six over the final seven holes. Junior
Jimmy Cage tied for 43rd overall as he signed for a 14-over 86. Cage collected three pars over the front nine and finished strong on the back nine by earning four pars and signing for a 42.
Junior
Slade Figard rounded out the Five Bears competing by signing for a 90 and finishing tied for 51st in his season debut. Figard tied his season low from a season ago when he shot a 90 at the Albright College Spring Invite. During his round, he collected par on three of the first holes before closing out the back nine with five pars.
The Bears return to action on Thursday, October 10th as they host the Ursinus Fall Invitational from Turtle Creek Golf Club starting at 8:30 a.m.
