WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Ursinus College men's golf team completed the first day of competition at the Melee on Sunday afternoon.
Five Bears competed at the Ford's Colony Country Club, a par-72 course that stretches 6,954-yards. Ursinus currently sits in 14th-place and will look to make up 10-strokes to surpass Arcadia University. Drew University currently paces the field with a team tally of 288, while McDaniel (292) ranks second, and Dickinson College (305) rounds out the top three teams in the field.
Junior
Billy Breslin currently leads the team recording a nine-over 81 and ranks tied for 43rd overall. Breslin's day was highlighted by earning birdie on the par-4 7th hole and finishing with a team-high 10 pars throughout his round.
Sophomore
Brandon Mongan and junior
Jimmy Cage each signed for a 14-over 86 and currently sit tied for 58th overall. Mongan ranked second on the team with eight pars and added a birdie on the par-5 12th hole enroute to a five-over 41 on the back nine. Cage tallied a 10-over 46 on the front nine and added back-to-back birdies on the par-5 12th and par-4 13th to close out his day with a four-over 40 on the back nine.
Junior
Slade Figard collected a career-low score of 89 and currently ranks tied for 63rd overall. He tallied a five or less on each of the first nine holes, before adding a birdie on the par-4 11th and closing out his round with a nine-over 45 on the back nine.
Sophomore
Trevor Maden rounded out the five Bears competing finishing day one with a 91 and sits in a tie for 67th overall. Maden opened with a 46 over the first nine holes and turned in his scorecard with a birdie on the par-5 12th hole.
The Bears return to action tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. to wrap up their fall season and to complete the second round of competition.
