WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Ursinus College men's golf team wrapped up their fall season by placing 14th at The Melee tournament on Monday afternoon.
Five Bears competed at the Ford's Colony Country Club, a par-72 course that stretches 6,954-yards. Ursinus landed on a second-round tally of 331 and a two-day tournament score of 673. Drew University won the team title behind a final team total of 584, while McDaniel (590) placed second, and Bridgewater College (608) rounded out the top-three teams. Drew's Elliot Parker won the individual title by finishing one-under during both rounds for a final score of 142.
Junior
Billy Breslin and sophomore
Brandon Mongan led the team by finishing tied for 47th overall and each ending day two with a total score of 164. After shooting an 81 yesterday, Breslin signed for an 83 today and totaled 10 pars throughout his round. His day was highlighted by earning par on eight of the nine holes from the sixth tee throughout hole 14. Mongan shined for the Bears during the second round of competition, signing for the team's lowest score of 78, and leading the squad with three birdies. Mongan birdied two of the first three holes and matched his career-low score of 78 that occurred at the Golden Oaks Invitational on September 30th.
Junior
Jimmy Cage finished three shots shy of Breslin and Mongan, signing for an 81 in his second round, and totaling a final score of 167. Cage tied for 56th overall and matched Breslin's mark of 10 pars throughout the round. He opened with a four-over 40 on the front nine, before closing out his round with a 41 over the final nine holes.
Junior
Slade Figard and sophomore
Trevor Maden each finished tied for 67th overall and closed out the tournament with a final tally of 180. After shooting a 91 yesterday, Maden improved by two strokes finishing with an 89. Meanwhile, Figard signed for an 89 during the first round and closed out the fall season slate with a 91. Maden recorded a birdie on the par-5 16th hole, while Figard added seven pars during his round.
The Bears wrap up their fall schedule and will return to action on Saturday, March 22nd at The Ruckus tournament at the Williamsburg National Golf Club in Williamsburg, Virginia.
