LEXINGTON, Va. – The Ursinus Men's Track & Field team took to the two-day VMI Winter Classic this weekend and continued an impressive indoor season against opponents from all three NCAA divisions.
The Bears set three school records and one Centennial Conference in a strong weekend for the team as Centennial Championships sit two weeks away.
Sophomore
Aiden Tobin reset his two-week old Centennial Conference record in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.76 that placed him second overall and first among Division III runners. His time paces the Centennial Conference and Metro Region while sitting tied for 14th in all of Division III.
Senior
Daniel Tabor easily set the 400 meter school record with his time of 49.08, beating the time of 49.63 held by Tyler Reilly and senior
Collin Ney. Tabor won the event with that time and now paces the metro region in the 400. He led a trio of Bears in the top-10 as senior
Payton Stanziani followed in third place with a season best time of 49.49 and Ney placed sixth after crossing the line at 49.82.
Sophomore
Liam Johnston got in on the record breaking in the mile by winning the race with a time of 4:17.73 which topped the previous mark set by senior
Tucker McGrath of 4:19.64 last season. Johnston holds the third fastest time for the mile in the Centennial Conference and is eighth in the metro region. McGrath finished fourth in the race with a time of 4:20.86 and first-year
Troy Hedrick finished seventh with his personal best time of 4:27.65.
The 4x400 relay team of Tobin, Tabor, Stanziani, and Ney won the event with a time of 3:20.10.
Junior
David Kenny finished second overall and first among Division III runners in the 800 meters with his season best time of 1:56.21 and classmate
Paul Faggioli crossed the line in fifth on his own season best time of 1:57.29. Johnston rounded out the Bears in the top 10 in ninth with a time of 1:59.56. Junior
Zachary Cosme placed fourth in the 3,000 meters with his time of 9:12.12
In field events, junior
Tom Wood recorded a third place finish in the shot put with a throw of 14.33 meters and senior
Parker Howell finished 10th with his mark of 13.28 meters. Junior
Chase Shaneman finished ninth in the weight throw with a toss of 14.76 meters. Junior
Ken Komatsu finished fourth in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 3.90 meters while first-year
Jaxon Geddio led four Bears in the high jump placing sixth at a personal best 1.82 meters. Sophomore
James Sims III finished seventh at 1.82 meters as well while sophomore
Markel Roberts-Jackson and junior
Ethan Chambers each cleared the bar at 1.72 meters. Senior
Michael Agbeye finished fifth in the triple jump on a season best mark of 12.57 meters.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, February 17th as they will compete in the Keogh Invitational at Haverford College at 10:00 a.m. The throws will take place at the Ursinus Floy Lewis Bakes Center on Friday, February 16th at 4:00 p.m.
