CHESTER, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Track & Field team opened competition at the two-day Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University on Friday.
The Bears had athletes competing a pair of throwing events on Friday and was highlighted by junior
Tom Wood winning the shot put. Wood won the shot put with a mark of 15.48 meters that was just .1 off his personal best and nearly two full meters clear of second place. Wood currently holds the second longest throw in the Centennial Conference through the first two full weeks of the outdoor season. First-year
Carter Kensil was second among the Bears in sixth overall with a throw of 12.93 meters and senior
Parker Howell finished eighth overall with a mark of 12.36 meters.
In the discus, junior
Chase Shaneman led the Bears and finished third overall with a career best throw of 43.79 meters. Shaneman vaulted to the top of the Centennial Conference with that throw and beat his previous best throw by over two meters. Howell also set a career best mark for the discus after recording a throw of 38.49 meters to finish sixth overall and second among Ursinus throwers. Wood recorded a throw of 35.14 meters to place third among Bear throwers and 11th overall while first-year
Liam Janschka finished 14th with a toss of 32.62 meters competing in his first collegiate discus event.
Ursinus returns to action tomorrow, March 30th as they will wrap up the Danny Curran Invitational starting at 9:00 a.m.
