CHESTER, Pa. – Senior
Tucker McGrath reset a 44-year old school record to highlight the Ursinus Men's Track & Field team on the second day of the Paul Donahue Invitational at Widener University on Saturday.
McGrath was one of two Bears to shatter the old 1,500 meters school record that was held by Ron Shaiko after he posted his time of 3:55.69 in 1980. McGrath posted a time of 3:54.05 for the new school record time and was the top Division III runner in the race while finishing fourth overall. Sophomore
Liam Johnston also bested Shaiko's time at a 3:55.54 and placed sixth overall. McGrath holds the fourth fastest time in the Centennial Conference while Johnston is tied for fifth. In the Metro Region, McGrath sits third and Johnston is right behind in fourth.
First-year
Jayden McKeen continued his sizzling run in the javelin by besting the NCAA Outdoor Championship qualifying mark of 58.47 meters on his throw of 62.20 meters that won the meet. McKeen now holds the top mark in the Centennial, second in the Metro Region, and is seventh in all of NCAA Division III. Junior
Chase Shaneman also set a career best in the javelin with his throw of 54.00 meters that placed him fourth overall. Junior
Eric Tanz placed eighth on his mark of 50.88 meters and classmate
Eric Sugarman came in 12th at 48.03 meters.
Sophomore
Deane Leader paced a trio of Bears in the hammer throw with a career best mark of 42.15 meters for 13th overall. Junior
Tom Wood placed 15th overall with a throw of 41.27 meters and sophomore Sean Barerra was 18th on his mark of 38.91 meters.
Sophomore
James Sims III cleared the high jump bar at 1.87 meters to pace a trio of Bears in the event. First-year
Jaxon Geddio and sophomore
David Piotrowski both cleared the bar at 1.77 meters. Junior
Ken Komatsu placed eighth in the pole vault with his season best mark of 4.15 meters.
In sprints, junior
Mason Jolivette led the Bears in the 100 meters with a time of 11.30 and in the 400 meter hurdles with his time of 57.59. Sophomore
Patrick Ryan and first-year
Devon Bock finished .01 of each other in the 110 meter hurdles with times of 17.32 and 17.33 meters, respectively. Sophomore
Sean Bowers posted the best Ursinus time in the 200 meters on a time 23.16 while senior
Dolan Cox had the top Bears time in the 400 at 53.46.
Junior
Paul Faggioli led the Bears in the 800 meters on his time of 1:56.44 and placed 12th overall while classmate
Zachary Cosme recorded a career best time of 10:17.89 in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
The Bears have a busy weekend upcoming in their penultimate weekend before Centennial Championships. Ursinus will be sending athletes to the 128th Penn Relays in Philadelphia starting Thursday, April 25th before starting up at the TCNJ Lions Invitational at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 26th.
