Johnston Sets 1500 Meter School Record at Widener Final Qualifier

CHESTER, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Track & Field team began their final push to qualify more athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Championship Meet at the Widener Final Qualifier on Monday.

Sophomore Liam Johnston highlighted the day by setting the three-week old 1500 meter school record with his time of 3:53.97. He topped teammate Tucker McGrath's old time of 3:54.05 that was set on the very same track back on April 20th. Johnston had also broken the previous school record that same day behind McGrath's time. Johnston now holds the third fastest time in the Metro Region and McGrath posted a time of 3:59.14 in the race today.

Senior Daniel Tabor laid down a statement time of 47.53 in the 400 meters that placed him third overall and second among Division III runners. It was a career best time, and he now sits 23rd overall in all of Division III that lands him right in contention to qualify for the race at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. Classmate Payton Stanziani also recorded a career best time in the race at 48.68 to finish eighth overall as did Devon Greaves in 10th with a time of 49.48. Senior Collin Ney recorded a time of 49.78 to place 13th and junior Mason Jolivette rounded out the Bears with a time of 51.41.

Sophomore Aiden Tobin recorded a time of 21.63 in the 200 meter dash in his lone race of the day. The Bears had a trio of juniors in the 800 meter dash that was led by David Kenny on his career best time of 1:55.34. Paul Faggioli was just behind Kenny at a 1:55.79 and Christan Rosado posted a time of 1:56.89.

First-year Jayden McKeen hit 60+ meters for the second time this season in the javelin after recording a throw of 60.29 meters to finish runner-up. Junior Chase Shaneman recorded a personal best throw in the javelin at 57.11 meters to finish fourth and classmate Tom Wood finished sixth in the shot put on a throw of 15.02 meters.

The Bears return to action on Wednesday, May 15th as they will begin the two-day AARTFC Regional Championship Meet at SUNY Cortland starting at 12:00 p.m.
