ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Junior
Ken Komatsu highlighted the Ursinus Men's Track & Field team on the first day of Centennial Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a silver medal in the pole vault at Muhlenberg College.
The Bears finished the first day in third place with 18 points while Johns Hopkins leads the way with 40. Komatsu was the lone medalist on the day for the Bears men's team.
Komatsu repeated as the Centennial Silver medalist for the pole vault after clearing the bar at 4.13 meters, which topped his Centennial Championship mark of 4.10 meters from last season. Sophomore
Sean Bowers came through with an eighth-place finish to earn the final point for the Bears after posting a career best mark of 3.53 meters.
In the hammer throw, juniors
Chase Shaneman and
Tom Wood both set personal bests and finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Shaneman recorded a toss of 47.27 meters while Wood tallied a mark of 45.63 meters. Sophomore
Deane Leader finished ninth on a mark of 40.46 meters and classmate Sean Barerra placed 14th on a 35.23 meter throw.
Five Bears began the Decathlon and junior
Ethan Chambers led the group with 2,728 points which placed him third overall. Chambers won the high jump and placed third in both the long jump and 400 meters. Junior
Davonte Hinds sits fourth with 2,650 points behind his win in the shot put and third in the high jump while first-year
Jayden McKeen is in fifth at 2,578 points. First-year
Devon Bock is sixth at 2,479 points and sophomore
Noah Berger rounds the group out in seventh at 2,307 points.
First-year
Nav Manick led Ursinus in the 10,000 meters with a personal best time of 34:21.47.
The Bears return to day two tomorrow, May 4th with the first events going off at 10:00 a.m. at Muhlenberg.
