KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's golf team opened their 2024-25 season by earning a 13th-place finish at the Battle of Berkleigh on Thursday afternoon.
Five Bears competed at the Berkleigh Golf Club, a par-72 course that stretches over 6,729-yards. Drew University won the team title shooting a two-over 290, Albright College (296), and University of Scranton (301) rounded out the top-three teams. Lancaster Bible's Jake Rotelle won the individual crown shooting a five-under 67.
Junior
Jimmy Cage paced the Bears lineup shooting a 10-over 82 finishing tied for 40th overall. He tallied nine pars on the day including a birdie on the par-4 11th hole that stretches 429-yards. Cage collected a six-over 41 on the front nine, before finishing out his round with a 4-over 41 over the final nine holes. He finished just one-shot shy of a career best score of 81 which occurred on April 14th last season at the Dickinson College invite.
Sophomore
Trevor Maden ranked second on the team signing for a 15-over, 87, and placed tied for 55th overall. Junior
Billy Breslin placed 60th, finishing one shot shy of Maden, earning a 16-over 88. Breslin recorded four pars during the front nine including three straight from holes four through six. He signed for a seven-over through the final nine holes and collected a birdie on the par-5 18th hole. Maden collected six pars throughout his round and added a birdie on the par-3 15th hole.
First-year
Aidan Bonczek placed tied for 66th overall in his collegiate debut signing for a 91. He led the team by tallying back-to-back birdies on the par-3 sixth and par-4 seventh holes. Sophomore
Brandon Mongan rounded out the five Bears competing by placing 68th and finishing his round with a 93 (+21).
The Bears will return to action on Sunday, September 29th as they travel Fleetwood, Pennsylvania to compete in the first day of the Golden Oaks Invitational at noon.
