COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – In their first action in over a month, the Ursinus Men's Indoor Track & Field team returned to action on Sunday at the annual Collegeville Classic in the Floy Lewis Bakes Center.
First-year
Mitchell Davis highlighted the meet on the men's side by setting the Bears indoor school record in the pole vault with a winning mark of 4.80 meters. Davis topped the previous mark of 4.71 meters set by Brody Myers during the 2021-22 season after nearly topping it in December with his debut mark of 4.70. Davis is yarding the Centennial Conference now by .50 meters and now sits ninth overall in all of Division III. Davis led four Bears competing in the pole vault with junior
Sean Bowers placing second after clearing the bar at 3.80 meters, sophomore
Devon Bock in third at 2.75 meters, and senior
Davonte Hinds in fourth with his 2.45 meter mark.
In sprints, junior
Aiden Tobin recorded the fastest time of any competitor in the 60 meters during the prelims with a 7.13 and did not race in the finals. First-year
Andy Zigbuo led all collegiate runners and finished second overall in the 60 meter finals with a time of 7.19. Junior
Eddie Weick posted a 7.48 and placed fourth overall while first-year
Preston Hammond was fifth with a 7.57 and senior
Alex Pratzner rounded out the group with a 7.62. Tobin returned to the track by winning the 300 meters on a time of 35.67. Senior
Mason Jolivette finished third with a time of 37.00 and first-year
Jason Peters placed sixth overall with a time of 37.85. Sophomore
Logan Downs (39.80) and Tristan Lee-Edwards (39.93) finished back-to-back in eighth and ninth.
Senior
Devon Greaves led five Bears in the 60 meter hurdle finals by placing second overall with a time of 8.78 and junior
Patrick Ryan was in third on a 9.02. Sophomore
Dylan Baer was in fourth after crossing the line at 9.23 while first-year
Kyle Cummings and Bock posted times of 9.51 and 9.53, respectively. Sophomore
James Long-Stratton paced the Bears in the 200 meters with his time of 24.28.
Junior
Liam Johnston led a trio of Bears in the 1000 meters after finishing with a time of 2:33.61 while senior
Jack Fisher was second on a 2:39.82. Sophomore
Troy Hedrick rounded out the trio in fourth with a time of 2:42.61. First-year
Conor Flaherty won the 600 meters with his time of 1:29.93 and sophomore
Sean Geherty followed him up in second on a time of 1:30.34. Three Bears finished in the top-10 of the mile with first-year Aiden Furtek placing sixth on a time of 4:48.41 and junior
Justice Scheidel was just behind at a 4:48.70. Sophomore
Dom Nunez recorded a ninth place finish at the mile with his time of 4:52.36. Sophomore
Nav Manick (9:55.10) and senior
Zachary Cosme (10:00.40) earned top-10 finishes for the Bears in the 3000 meters.
In throws, all seven Bears in the shot put earned top-10 finishes which was paced by senior
Tom Wood on his throw of 14.67 meters. Sophomore
Carter Kensil was runner-up on his throw of 13.47 meters and first-year
Noah Sanders placed fourth behind a mark of 12.12 meters. Senior
Chase Shaneman finished fifth with his throw of 11.90 meters, junior
Sean Barrera was sixth on a 11.80 meter mark, sophomore
Liam Janschka finished ninth with his 9.69 meter throw, and first-year
Nick Boyle completed the group in 10th on a mark of 9.32 meters. Sanders led the Bears in the weight throw and finished second overall on his throw of 14.46 meters. Shaneman was third on his mark of 14.36 meters and Kensil completed the top-five behind his mark of 14.21 meters. Wood was sixth on his 13.51 meter weight throw and was followed by a pair of sophomores in
Michael Danter (11.32 meters) and
Luke Skinner (10.90 meters) in eighth and ninth, respectively. Junior
Sean Barrera finished the top-10 on his throw of 10.52 meters.
Senior
Caden Johnson paced a 1-2-3 finish for Ursinus in the long jump after recording a mark of 6.46 meters. Zigbuo was second with his 6.42 meter jump and classmate Isaiah Dennis finished third on a 5.99 meter jump. Junior
James Sims III placed eighth overall with his jump of 5.70 meters. Junior
Cole Jackson took third place in the high jump with his 1.73 meter mark just over classmate
David Piotrowski who also cleared the bar at the same height. Hinds and Bock posted 1.53 meter jumps and placed seventh and eighth.
The 4x400 relay team of Pratzner, Ryan, Baer, and Edwards was the lone Ursinus relay team to compete and posted a time of 3:50.15.
The Bears return to action next weekend as student-athletes will be represented in two events. Multiple Bears will be at the Widener Evening Invite hosted by the University of Pennsylvania on Friday, January 24th and the team will finish at Franklin & Marshall's Coach I Open on Saturday, January 25th.
