LANCASTER, Pa. – First-year
Mitchell Davis topped his own school record in the pole vault that highlighted the Ursinus Men's Track & Field teams outing at the Coach I Open hosted by Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.
The Bears had most of its athletes at the Coach I Open after juniors
Aiden Tobin and
James Sims III competed for the team on Friday night at the Widener Evening Invite at the University of Pennsylvania. Tobin competed in the 60 and 200 meters for Ursinus and placed third in the 200 behind a time of 22.05. Tobin followed that with a season best time of 7.02 in the 60 meters while Sims placed 13th overall in the high jump after clearing the bar at 1.83 meters.
On Saturday, Davis topped his school record that was previously set six days ago at the Collegeville Classic with a new mark of 4.90 meters to win the event. It currently sits as the fifth best pole vault mark in all of NCAA Division III and he topped Catholic's Christian Di Nicolantonio, the defending outdoor pole vault national champion in the process. Sean Bowers also competed in the pole vault and placed seventh on a personal best mark of 3.94 meters.
The Bears had a strong day in jumps as six Bears posted top-10 finishes between the triple, long, and high jump. Junior
Cole Jackson won the triple jump behind a top mark of 13.03 meters while first-year
Andy Zigbuo continued his impressive start by placing second in the long jump on a mark of 6.30 meters. Senior
Caden Johnson finished eighth in the long jump on a mark of 5.88 meters and first-year
Isaiah Denis was right behind in ninth at a 5.79 meter jump. Sophomore
Jaxon Geddio paced the Bears in the high jump and finished fourth overall after clearing the bar at 1.82 meters. Junior
David Piotrowski was the second Bear in the top 10 for the high jump on his mark of 1.77 meters.
In throws, senior
Tom Wood finished third overall in the shot put with his throw of 14.70 meters and sophomore
Carter Kensil rounded out the top-10 on a mark of 12.45 meters. Four Bears recorded top-10 finishes in the weight throw, led by first-year
Noah Sanders in fourth with his throw of 14.85 meters. Senior
Chase Shaneman placed fifth on a throw of 14.61 meters and Wood was sixth on 14.28-meter mark. Kensil finished ninth with his throw of 13.06 meters.
Junior
Patrick Ryan finished fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with his time of 9.03 after finishing second in the prelims with a personal best time of 8.90. First-year
Kyle Cummings finished fifth in the finals with a time of 9.06 after posting a personal best of 9.01 to finish fourth in the prelims. Senior
Devon Greaves placed ninth in the prelims after crossing the line at 9.24. Senior
Mason Jolivette posted a sixth place finish in the 200 meters with his time of 23.71 and posted a season best time of 53.59 in the 400 that led the team.
Junior
Liam Johnston posted a runner-up finish in the 800 with his time of 1:57.62 and sophomore
Troy Hedrick earned a seventh place finish on a 2:01.06 to become the second Bear in the top-10 for the race.
The Bears return to action on Friday, January 31st at the Rutgers Scarlet Knight Open held at New York City's Armory.
