EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Led by four finalists, the Ursinus College women's wrestling team earned a second-place finish at the Pennsylvania Collegiate Championships on Sunday afternoon from East Stroudsburg University.
Junior
Kalli Roskos (124lbs), first-year Olvia Guy (117lbs), sophomores
Stacy Bloomfield (130lbs), and
Emma Matera (160lbs) each recorded second-place finishes for the Bears. Meanwhile, sophomores
Mandy Gavares (103lbs),
Paisley Fox (145lbs), and
Gianna Perez (180lbs) tallied fourth place nods, while first-yeara
Emma Sagi (138lbs) and
Evette Colon (207lbs) collected fifth and sixth-place finishes, respectively.
"The coaching staff is really proud of how we competed today," Director of Wrestling
Joe Jamison said. This is an incredibly tough tournament and to finish second is a great accomplishment. We made strides today with a few revenge wins and closed the gap on some other opponetns. We really needed to make a statement today and the girls stepped up in a big way."
Guy opened with a 46-second fall over East Stroudsburg's Isabella Washington-Vasquez before knocking off the top-seed and second ranked in the region Delaware Valley's Josey Wehr in the semifinals. After recording the initial takedown, Guy fell behind 8-2 before recording the fall at the 1:40-mark of the opening period to advance to the finals. Unfortunately, Guy was upended in the finals by ESU's Olivia Palmer to finish second at 117lbs.
At 124lbs, Roskos recorded an 8-2 victory over Alvernia's Danielle Ferrara in the semifinals but fell by a 3-1 decision in the finals against ESU's Waverly Kanelong to place second. Bloomfield shined at 131lbs as she recorded back-to-back victories to reach the finals. Bloomfield opened with a 10-0 victory over Misericordia's Ahlexa Montalvo before collecting a fall over York's Alexandria Mazzella in the semifinals. In her final bout, Bloomfield was downed by technical superiority against ESU's Zoe Gress to earn silver at 131lbs.
Fox the No. 3 seed earned a 23-second fall over Misericordia's Kailey Remish to open the tournament, but fell against the No. 2 seed ESU's Angelina Hiller by fall to enter the consolations. Fox recorded a fall at the 1:09-mark of the opening period over Cedar Crest's Zakiyyah Sabir, but fell in the consolation finals against Delaware Valley's Olivia Kinder to finish fourth.
Matera rounded out the Bears lineup recording back-to-back falls top open the tournament. She tallied a fall at the 1:01-mark over Muhlenberg's Karla Lazaro and a pin over York's Kaylyn Adair at the 1:51-mark to reach the finals. Unfortunately, Matera was downed by a 17-6 technical superiority against ESU's Tiffani Baublitz to earn a second-place nod.

th as they travel to Delaware Valley University for a dual meet starting at 6 p.m.
