NEW YORK CITY – The Ursinus Men's Track & Field team turned in a strong showing against schools from all three NCAA Divisions at the Rutgers Scarlet Knight Open held at the New York City Armory on Friday.
A pair of school records were topped on Friday as first-year
Mitchell Davis and junior
Liam Johnston bested their own respective marks. For the third straight meet, Davis set a new school record mark in the pole vault as he cleared the bar at 4.94 meters to finish as the top Division III athlete in the event. Davis now holds the fifth best pole vault mark this season in Division III and placed seventh overall. Johnston bested his old indoor mile record by two seconds with a time of 4:15.42 and finished fifth overall in the race. Ursinus assistant coach
Gabe Puleo won the race running unattached with a time of 4:12.81.
Junior
James Sims III led all Division III athletes and finished seventh overall in the high jump after clearing the bar at a season best 1.95 meters. Sophomore
Jaxon Geddio was second overall among D3 athletes in the event with a mark of 1.85 meters and junior
David Piotrowski was fourth in that group with his mark of 1.80 meters. Junior
Cole Jackson paced the Bears in the long jump and triple jump with his marks of 6.37 and 12.89 meters and was the top Division III athlete finisher in each event.
In throws, senior
Tom Wood finished second overall in the shot put with a throw of 15.44 meters for the championship division while sophomore
Carter Kensil was second in the college division with his mark of 13.84 meters. Senior
Chase Shaneman finished seventh overall and was the top Division III athlete with his 14.70 meter mark in the weight throw.
Junior
Patrick Ryan led a trio of Bears in the 60 meter hurdles with his time of 9.16 while senior
Mason Jolivette led the Bears in the 200 meters on his time of 23.20. Senior
Devon Greaves posted the top Ursinus time of 52.65 in the 400 meters and classmate
Christian Rosado led four Bears in the 800 meters on his time of 1:59.16.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, February 8th as they will host the annual Frank Colden Invitational, their last home indoor meet of the season, starting at 8:45 a.m.
