LANCASTER, Pa. – Highlighted by a bronze medal, the Ursinus College men's swimming team completed day two of competition at the Centennial Conference Championships on Friday from Franklin & Marshall College.
The Bears have totaled 130 team points and currently sit in fifth place in the tournament standings. Gettysburg College (321) currently is the leader of the pack with Swarthmore (312), and Franklin & Marshall (194) rounding out the top-three of the standings. Dickinson College (157) is just ahead of the Bears, while Washington College (119) and McDaniel (86) round out the seven-team field.
On Thursday, Ursinus opened with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of first-year
Josh Travers, junior
Francesco D'Avella, sophomore
Jack Giuliana, and senior
Kevin Sonn combined for a time of 1:32.52. The Bears matched the performance in the 800-yard freestyle relay as the team of seniors
Jonah Kasznay,
Dylan Schreffler,
Jake Klucinec, and junior
David McCauley placed fourth with a time of 6:53.02.
Kasznay gave the Bears their first medal of the weekend, collecting a bronze medal in the 500-yard freestyle behind a time of 4:33.44. The time ranks as a personal best for Kasznay and second all-time in program history behind Jake Menzer's time of 4:33.25 in 2019. McCauley picked up a third-place nod in the B-Final of the 500 free as he earned a time of 4:42.98.
Next, in the B-Final of the 50-yard freestyle, Sonn (21.10) and Giuliana (21.61) teamed up to earn a second and eighth-place finish for the Bears, respectively. Sonn nearly topped his career best time of 21.08 which ranks third all-time in program history. Meanwhile, Giuliana also finished just shy of his person best time of 21.51, which occurred last season at conferences.
Ursinus closed out the evening with the sixth fastest time in the A-Final of the 400-yard medley relay as the quartet of Kasznay, D'Avella, Giuliana, and Sonn combined for a time of 3:26.20.
The Bears return to the pool tomorrow morning as session four starts at 10 a.m. from McGinness Pool.
