COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus men's swimming team closed out the fall semester with a 143-62 loss to York College on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Ursinus fell to 3-5 on the season, while the Spartans improved to 4-0. The Bears opened the meet by finishing second in the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of senior
Francesco D'Avella, sophomores
Evan Wagner and
Josh Travers, and junior
Jack Giuliana combined for a time of 1:38.29.
Senior
David McCauley recorded a third-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:54.86. First-year
Alexander Nicolai continued to shine for the Bears, finishing second in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:48.08, while sophomore Quintin Grosvenor (1:59.88) and junior
Henry Howard placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
D'Avella tallied a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.55, while first-year
Jack Campbell took fourth at 22.63. Sophomore
Josh Travers highlighted the Bears in the 200-yard individual medley by finishing second with a time of 2:04.62. Giuliana followed in the 100-yard butterfly, placing second at 52.70. In the 100-yard backstroke, Ursinus posted two of the top three times as D'Avella (54.91) and Travers (56.19) finished second and third, respectively.
Ursinus earned its lone event victory in the 500-yard freestyle as Nicolai posted a time of 4:57.09, outpacing the field by eight seconds. The Bears closed the meet by finishing second in the 400-yard freestyle relay as McCauley, Campbell, Nicolai, and Giuliana combined for a time of 3:18.63.
The Bears will return to action Saturday, January 17th, when they travel to Dallas, Pennsylvania, for a dual meet against Misericordia, beginning at 4 p.m.
