Box Score 1 COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus softball team opened its 2025 season at home against Widener on Thursday afternoon at the Snell Softball Field. The Bears dropped game one 12-3 before the second game was suspended due to darkness in the top of the fourth inning with Ursinus leading 6-0.
The Pride went 1-2-3 in the top of the first inning and the Bears immediately jumped on Widener in game one with three runs off three hits and one error to take an initial 3-0 lead. First-year
Anna Evanchik roped a double to left field in her first collegiate at-bat to lead off the game and scored two batters later off a single up the middle from senior
Stephanie Wichman. Senior
Rachel Hartman hit a single to right field to score junior
Kayla Carr and Wichman came around as well after an errant throw from the right fielder.
After another scoreless inning, the Pride got on the board with two runs in the top of the third to make it 3-2 with both coming with two outs. Ursinus got a leadoff double in the bottom of the third from first-year
Reagan Robinson and a single from Wichman two batters later gave the Bears runners on first and third with just one out. However, the Bears stranded the runners with a strike out and ground out. Widener responded with four runs in the top of the fourth to go up 6-3 and added a pair in the top of the fifth from a two-run home run. Widener made it 9-3 in the top of the sixth and closed the game out with a bases-clearing double in the top of the seventh that made it 12-3. Wichman led the Bears with two hits and an RBI. Widener had its offense powered by Kaelin Kuester who went 4-of-4 with 7 RBI's and a home run.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, March 1st as they will return to action to face Catholic for a doubleheader at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy starting at 1:00 p.m.
