WBCA Release
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College women's basketball senior forward
Chinwe Irondi capped her incredible career with another postseason honor by receiving All-America honorable mention honors from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
She becomes the first women's basketball athlete to earn All-American honors since Ellen Cosgrove in 1995. Irondi and Cosgrove are the top-two scorers all-time in program history and are the only two Bears to record over 1,800 points in their careers. This season, Irondi became the second player in school history to exceed the 1,000-career rebound mark after scoring 31 points and posting 16 rebounds in the Bears victory over Muhlenberg.
Across her career, Irondi started 102 games for the Bears averaging 17.7 points per contest and 9.9 rebounds per game. She led the Centennial with a career-best 20.2 points per game this season, 10 rebounds per contest, and shot 60.9% from the field. She became just the third player in Centennial Conference history to become a four-time first-team all-conference selection and was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Year this season.
This marks the second postseason honor for Irondi as she was awarded first-team All-Region V honors by D3hoops.com. She becomes eligible for the D3hoops.com All-American team, which will be released on March 22nd at the NCAA Division III National Championships game.
