Breslin Highlights Men's Golf Showing at Spring Awakening

LIMERICK, Pa. – Led by a runner-up finish from junior Billy Breslin, the Ursinus College men's golf team took second place, while hosting the Spring Awakening tournament on Thursday afternoon.

Eight Bears competed at the Turtle Creek Golf Club, a par-72 course stretching over 6,683-yards. Ursinus finished one stroke shy of their season-low, posting a team score of 314 to finish second. The Bears' previous team low came at the Golden Oaks Invitational on September 30th, when they shot a 313. Drew University captured the team title, with a final tally of 295, while Muhlenberg College placed third, finishing six shots back of Ursinus with a 320. Penn State Berks (321) took fourth, and Penn State Brandywine (322) rounded out the top-five in the nine-team field.

Breslin shined for the Bears, carding a career-low 1-under 71 to tie for 1st overall. However, he lost on the third tiebreaker to Drew's Elliot Parker, whose scores over the final three holes secured the title. Breslin opened with a string of pars before notching a birdie on the par-3 ninth hole, making the turn at even-par 36. He carried the momentum into the back nine with birdies on the par-4 10th, par-4 12th, and par-5 13th to finish with a 1-under 35. His round of 71 was his lowest round since shooting a 75 at the DeSales University Spring Classic on March 29th.

Sophomore Trevor Maden tied for 10th with a 6-over 78. His round was highlighted by a birdie on the par-4 seventh hole, and he closed with pars on five of his six final holes. Maden shot 3-over on each side of the clubhouse, just shy of reaching his collegiate low of 75.

First-year Aidan Bonczek tied for 20th with an 82, narrowly missing his career-low 79 set at the DeSales Spring Classic. His round included birdies on the par-4 fifth and the par-5 13th and ended his round with eight pars. Junior Jimmy Cage finished just behind, tying for 22nd, with an 83. Cage recorded three straight pars and a birdie on the 13th during his back nine, finishing with a 3-over 39.

Junior Slade Figard added a collegiate low, placing 32nd and with an 87. He recorded three pars on each side of the course, shooting 43 on the front and 44 on the back. Sophomore Brandon Mongan and senior Patrick Esemplare each tied for 33rd with scores of 88. Esemplare's round marked a career low and featured six pars.

Sophomore Logan Jones rounded out the Bears' lineup, competing, tying for 36th with a career-low 89. His previous best was a 95, also recorded at the Turtle Creek Golf Club.

The Bears return to action on Tuesday, April 15th as they compete at the Shawnee Golf Club for the Conquer The Island Tournament.
