PAOLI, Pa. – After the first day of competition, the Ursinus College men's golf team sits in eighth place at the Centennial Conference Championships.
Five Bears competed at Waynesboro Country Club, a par-72 course that stretches 6,596 yards. Ursinus finished with a team score of 339 and is currently ranks eighth in the field. Swarthmore College leads the field with a 2-under 286. No. 17 Gettysburg College (287) sits just behind Swarthmore in second. Franklin & Marshall (294) ranks third, followed by McDaniel College (300) and Dickinson College (302) to round out the top five teams.
Junior
Billy Breslin leads the Bears, tied for 32nd after shooting an 11-over 83 on Day one. He made par on his first four holes, with birdies on the par-5 eighth and par-4 16th to highlight his round. Breslin shined on the front nine, finishing with a 1-over 37 before ending with a 46 on the back nine.
Sophomore
Brandon Mongan and first-year
Aidan Bonczek each carded a 13-over 85 and are tied for 35th. Bonczek made seven pars during his round, including six straight from holes 4 through 9. Mongan recorded two pars on the front nine, signing for a 44, and finished with a 5-over 41 on the back. He totaled seven pars, including four in a row from holes 12 through 15.
Junior
Jimmy Cage ended his first round with a 14-over 86 and currently ranks 37th overall. He shot a 46 on the front nine and tallied five pars on the back to finish with a 4-over 40. Sophomore
Trevor Maden rounded out the Bears' lineup, tying for 38th with a 15-over 87. He made five pars and recorded a birdie on the par-3 10th hole.
The Bears return to action Saturday at 10:30 a.m. for the second round of the Centennial Conference Championships.
