WAYNESBORO, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's golf team shaved 13 strokes off its first-round score and sits in seventh place after the second day of competition at the Centennial Conference Championships on Saturday afternoon.
Five Bears competed at Waynesboro Country Club, a par-72 course that stretches 6,596 yards. Ursinus posted a team score of 326 for a two-day total of 665, ranking seventh in the field. No. 17 Gettysburg (585) and Franklin & Marshall (585) are tied for first place in the team standings. Swarthmore (594) is third, followed by McDaniel (596) and Dickinson (606) to round out the top five.
Sophomore
Brandon Mongan leads the Bears, tied for 31st after carding an 8-over 80. He recorded one par on the front nine but bounced back with three birdies on the back to finish with a 1-under 35. Mongan tallied back-to-back birdies on the par-5 12th and par-4 13th, with his final birdie coming on the par-4 16th.
Junior
Jimmy Cage and sophomore
Trevor Maden are tied for 33rd with two-day totals of 167. Maden shot an 87 in the opening round and responded with an 8-over 80, while Cage posted an 86 on Friday followed by an 81 in Round two. Maden signed for a pair of 40s on each side of the clubhouse, highlighted by a birdie on the par-3 seventh. Cage recorded seven pars in Round 2 and birdied the par-4 second and par-5 14th.
Junior
Billy Breslin is tied for 36th after rounds of 83 and 85 for a total of 168. He recorded six pars Saturday and birdied the par-5 eighth in both rounds. First-year
Aidan Bonczek ranks 38th after an 87 in Round two. He posted an 83 on Friday and notched four pars on Saturday, along with a birdie on the par-5 14th.
The Bears return to action Sunday morning for the final round of the Centennial Conference Championships, teeing off at 7:30 a.m.
