COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – First-year
Mitchell Davis highlighted the Ursinus Men's Track & Field team on the first day of Centennial Outdoor Track & Field Championships by completing his Centennial pole vault title sweep at Patterson Field on Friday.
The Bears finished the first day in second place with 26 points while Johns Hopkins leads the way with 31. Ursinus picked up a pair of medals on Friday with Davis taking gold and classmate
Noah Sanders placing third in the hammer throw.
Davis added to his breakout campaign by topping his own outdoor school record at 4.92 meters to claim his second gold medal school of the school year after claiming the indoor title as well. Davis's mark now sits 15th in NCAA Division III, and he is the second Bear in the past four years to sweep the pole vault at Centennial Championships after former Bear Brody Myers did so in 2022. Sean Bowers came through with a sixth-place finish to earn the final point for the Bears after posting a career best mark of 4.15 meters.
In the hammer throw, Sanders earned his bronze medal after recording a personal best throw of 50.46 meters. Senior
Tom Wood placed fifth for the Bears with a season best throw of 44.69 meters and classmate
Chase Shaneman was right behind him at a season best throw of 44.58 meters in sixth. Sophomore
Luke Skinner placed 11th at 37.43 meters and classmate
Michael Danter rounded out the Bears in 15th at 33.33 meters.
Five Bears began the Decathlon and senior
Ethan Chambers led the group with 2,757 points which placed him third overall. Chambers finished second in the high jump and placed fourth in both the long jump and 400 meters. Sophomore
Logan Downs sits fifth with 2,580 points behind his third in the high jump while sophomore
Devon Bock is sixth at 2,576 points. Senior
Davonte Hinds is ninth at 2,348 points and junior
Noah Berger rounds the group out in tenth at 1,943 points.
Sophomore
Nav Manick led Ursinus in the 10,000 meters with a time of 34:56.57 to place 18th overall.
The Bears return to day two tomorrow, May 3rd with the first events going off at 10:00 a.m. at Patterson Field.
