COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Women's Tennis opened their fall season by hosting the first Ursinus Invitational on Saturday at the Ace Bailey Tennis Courts.
The Bears competed in head-to-head singles and doubles matches with Albright and Alvernia on Saturday morning.
In doubles action, senior Kate Rubinkam and junior Morgan Coupe defeated Cora Parsons and Adelyn Steffy of Alvernia 8-1. Rubinkam and sophomore Katie Yu dropped an 8-2 match to Nadia Margaritov and Daniela Diez of Albright while senior Bella Vassalluzzo and first-year Mariah Mays suffered an 8-3 setback to Michelle Timothy and Allison Horick of Albright. Vassalluzzo and junior Caroline Daly were defeated 8-6 by Jillian Laughman and Monica Nguyen of Alvernia.
The Bears split singles matches with Alvernia and Albright and won all four singles matches against the Golden Wolves. Daly bested Laughman 8-3 and Coupe cruised past Steffy 8-2 to open the matches. First-year Sara Steelesmith and Rubinkam both swept past Parsons 8-0 in their matches. Yu was defeated by Timothy 8-4 and Mays was downed 8-0 by Margaritov. Vassalluzzo dropped a tough 8-6 match to Diez while Yu lost 8-4 to Aponte. Mays suffered an 8-3 loss to Timothy and Steelesmith was defeated 8-0 by Margaritov.
Ursinus returns to action on Wednesday, October 8th as they will take on Goucher at 4:00 p.m. in their first dual match of the season.
