COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Behind two individual champions and nine place-winners, the Ursinus women's wrestling team placed third at the Will Abele Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore
Olivia Guy (110) and junior
Stacy Bloomfield (131) each captured individual titles for the Bears. Ursinus totaled 93 points to finish third, while Western New England (109.5) claimed the team championship. No. 15 East Stroudsburg (95.5) placed second, followed by No. 17 Elmira College (86) and New Jersey City (56.5).
Guy won the 110-pound bracket with a perfect 4-0 record. She opened the tournament with a 12-0 victory by technical superiority over Western New England's Gianna Hernandez before pinning New Jersey City's Caelyn Petrl in 23 seconds. In the semifinals, Guy defeated East Stroudsburg's Tiana Savino by a 10-0 score and secured the championship by pinning Western New England's Destiny Martinez at the 1:18 mark of the first period.
Bloomfield, the top seed at 131 pounds, defeated East Stroudsburg's Ariel Manning by a 10-0 score in her opening match before pinning ESU's Janel Meyers at the 1:05 mark of the first period. She then earned a 12-2 technical fall over fourth-seeded Jaden Coppins of Western New England. In the championship bout, Bloomfield recorded a 7-0 decision against Pitt-Johnstown's Makayla Paclib to claim the title.
In the 145-pound weight class, junior
Cloe Charlesworth went 3-1 to finish second. She opened the tournament by pinning Western New England's Kendall Branchaud at the 1:03 mark and advanced to the semifinals with a pin of East Stroudsburg's Jessica Ayala in 29 seconds. Charlesworth then defeated New England College's Ashley Dehney by fall at the 1:02 mark before falling to top-seeded Zoey Lints in the finals.
Senior
Kalli Roskos posted a 4-1 record to take third at 124 pounds. She opened with consecutive 10-0 victories by technical superiority over Alfred State's Kierra Willis and East Stroudsburg's Cameryn Beebe. Roskos advanced to the semifinals by pinning New England College's Olivia Delegas in 41 seconds. After falling to Elmira's Megan Edwards, Roskos earned third place with a forfeit victory over New Jersey City's Nuria Kojic.
Junior
Paisley Fox (138) and first-year
Erin Rizzuto (110) each finished fourth, while first-years
Charlotte Bowman (160) and
Jurelys Peguero Del Rosario (180) placed fifth for the Bears.
Ursinus will return to action Saturday, Jan. 24, at the PA Collegiate Championships at East Stroudsburg University, beginning at 10 a.m.
