PREVIEW: Women's Basketball to Face Gettysburg in Centennial Semifinals

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Women's Basketball team has advanced to the Semifinal round of the Centennial Conference Tournament berth for the second time in the past three seasons and will travel to face the second-seeded Gettysburg at 8:00 p.m.

Ticket Information
 
The Centennial Conference has announced that Hudl will serve as the ticket provider for CC championship events. Hudl will give event attendees the ability to purchase tickets online for each round of the Centennial postseason. Centennial fans will be able to find all scheduled postseason events on the Centennial ticketing homepage and quickly purchase tickets to receive via email. Fans will then use their smartphone to gain access at championship events through a simple and secure ticket validation process.  Below are the ticket prices for each round of the postseason:

Records
Ursinus holds a 16-10 overall record and a finished the regular season with a 9-4 mark in Centennial play. The Bears finished third in the Centennial regular season standings. Meanwhile, the Bullets finished the regular season with an overall record of 19-6 and a 12-2 mark in Centennial play. Gettysburg finished second in the Centennial Conference regular season standings.
 
 
Scouting the Bears
 The Ursinus Women's Basketball team earned a hard-fought 53-47 win over Washington College in the First Round of the Centennial Conference Tournament on Tuesday evening at Helfferich Hall. Senior Madison Smith became the 18th player in Ursinus Women's Basketball program history to reach the 1,000-career point mark and led all scorers with 16 points while grabbing six rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Senior Ava Possenti tallied 11 points, four steals, three rebounds, and three assists and junior Erin Glanz posted 10 points, two rebounds, and two steals. The Bears rank fourth in both scoring offense in the Centennial Conference at 61.9 points per game and in team field goal percentage at 37.4 percent. Smith leads the team and ranks seventh in the Centennial Conference in scoring at 13.9 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at 6.6 per game. She has scored in double figures in 10 straight games and has tallied over 20 points in two of those games. Senior Ava Possenti sits just behind second on the team at 12.7 points per game and is arguably one of if not the best defenders in the Centennial Conference by yarding the league at 4.8 steals per game and ranks third in all of Division III with that number. Possenti holds the field goal percentage team lead at 42.6 percent and both the single season and career Ursinus steals record.
 
Bears in the Playoffs
The Bears made their third straight Centennial Conference Tournament appearance and are in the Semifinal round for the second time in the past three seasons. This will be the 13th all-time appearance in the Centennial Conference Tournament for the Bears and the team won league championships in 1995 and 2007.
 
Scouting the Bullets
 
Gettysburg holds the second highest scoring offense in the Centennial at 66.4 points per game and the third-lowest scoring defense at 55.3. The Bullets are third as a team in field goal percentage at 39.4 percent and have the second highest rebounds per game as a team at 44.0. Gettysburg is extremely deep as a team with no player scoring over 10 points per game but has five over seven points per game. Senior Kimberly Hopkins leads the team at 9.1 points per game while first-year Olivia Jones is second on the team at 8.0 points per game. Junior Skylar Reale leads the team in rebounding at 6.8 per game.
 
 
Bullets in the Playoffs
 
Gettysburg will be making its 23rd overall Centennial Conference Tournament appearance in program history and 11th straight since 2013. The Bullets are the four-time defending Centennial Conference champion and have made eight straight Centennial Conference Championship games dating back to 2017. Gettysburg has won six overall Centennial Conference Championships.  
 
Series History
 
Gettysburg holds the all-time series advantage over the Bears at 32-28 and a 30-15 advantage since the creation of the Centennial Conference in 1994. This will be the third all-time postseason between both schools with the Bears holding that edge at 2-1. The Bullets won the most recent postseason meeting in the 2019 Centennial Conference Semifinals  
 
 
Last Meeting
 
The Bullets dominated in the lone regular season meeting between the two teams on January 17th as they won 73-44 at Gettysburg. Ursinus was unable to overcome an overpowering first half from the Bullets that saw them build a 38-12 lead at halftime. First-year Anna Chimento impressed with 15 points off the bench for Ursinus.
 
 
Ursinus Head Coach: Bobbi Morgan
Bobbi Morgan is in her fifth season as the head coach of the Bears after a tenure at Haverford that saw her lead the Fords to three Centennial Conference titles. Morgan has steadily improved the team since her first season of 2021-22 with three straight Centennial Conference Tournament appearances. She is in her 21st overall season and holds a 322-219 record all-time. She is a three-time Centennial Conference Coach of the Year and WBCA Regional Coach of the Year recipient in 2014.
 
 
Gettysburg Head Coach: Nate Davis
In 11 seasons as head coach of the Gettysburg women's basketball program, Nate Davis has transformed the Bullets into not just a regional power but a national power as well. Davis sports a 286-99 (.743) record in 15 years as a head basketball coach, including 207-47 (.815) in 10 campaigns at Gettysburg. The Bullets have finished first or second in the Centennial Conference (CC) in each of the last eight seasons and have competed in the NCAA Division III Tournament seven consecutive seasons, marking the longest streak in program history. Davis has led the Bullets to four straight Centennial titles and five overall after winning his first in 2018. Additionally, Gettysburg has won at least 20 games in eight consecutive campaigns.

The winner will advance to the Centennial Conference Championship Game on Sunday, March 1st.  The highest remaining seed will host the game at a time to be determined.
