COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — Behind a stellar week on the mound, Ursinus senior pitcher
Dan Bass was named Centennial Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning.
Bass made two appearances for Ursinus, combining to pitch 8 2/3 innings while allowing three hits and one unearned run. He struck out seven batters and held opponents to a .107 batting average. Bass came out of the bullpen for the Bears on Wednesday, tossing 1 2/3 shutout innings against No. 7 Salisbury while recording one strikeout.
Against Washington College on Saturday, Bass pitched seven innings, allowing just one unearned run on two hits while striking out six to lead Ursinus to a 12-1 victory. He has not allowed an earned run over his last 16 2/3 innings pitched.
Through seven appearances this season, Bass owns a 3-1 record and leads the Centennial Conference with 36 2/3 innings pitched. His 3.44 ERA ranks 11th in the conference, while his 25 strikeouts are tied for fifth. Opponents are batting .216 against him, the third-best mark in the conference.
The Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, native has made 29 career starts, totaling 192 1/3 innings with 169 strikeouts over four seasons. He becomes the first Bear to collect the Centennial's weekly honor since junior
Brandon Sullivan earned the accolade in April of last season.
The Bears return to action today when they host Swarthmore College at 3:30 p.m. before traveling to Swarthmore on Friday to complete the season series.
