COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Ursinus College President Gundolf Graml announced on Wednesday morning that Al Reiser, Ed.D., will serve as Ursinus College's next director of athletics. Reiser, who brings more than a decade of senior leadership experience in collegiate athletics at both the NCAA Division I and Division III levels, will begin on July 1, 2026.
"We are thrilled to welcome Al Reiser to Ursinus College," said Graml. "He is a dedicated educator and servant leader whose deep commitment to the applied liberal arts experience aligns seamlessly with the mission and values of Ursinus. We are confident that his leadership will strengthen our tradition of excellence and further support the development of scholar-athletes who thrive academically, athletically, and personally."
Most recently, Reiser served as associate director of athletics at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash., where he acted as the primary deputy to the athletic director and helped lead a broad range of departmental initiatives. In this role, he worked with coaches and staff, strengthened partnerships across campus, coordinated NCAA compliance efforts, and helped guide the department through significant budget challenges while maintaining a positive and competitive student-athlete experience.
"I am excited to join the Ursinus community," said Reiser. "From my time on campus, it was clear that Ursinus values the holistic development of student-athletes and the strong connection between academic and athletic success. My goal is to help create an athletics program that develops confident leaders, engaged citizens, and competitive teams that represent Ursinus with pride both on and off the field."
Prior to Whitman, Reiser spent eight years at University of Wyoming Athletics as assistant athletic director for academic services, where he helped lead the department to record-setting academic performance, including some of the highest academic progress rates and GPA marks in department history. His experience also includes leadership roles at the University of Utah, Indiana University, and Lawrence University.
Reiser earned a doctor of education in higher education administration from the University of Wyoming, along with two master's degrees from Indiana University in athletic administration and higher education/student affairs. He also holds a bachelor of arts degree from Lawrence University.
