LANCASTER, Pa. – The best start in the history of the
Ursinus College men's lacrosse program…keeps on going.
The Bears (6-0, 2-0 Centennial) stayed undefeated in Centennial
Conference play with a 9-8 win at Franklin & Marshall (2-3, 0-1
Centennial) Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore attack David Kraus (Madison, Conn./Daniel
Hand) scored what turned out to be the game-winner with
7:29 left. After F&M scored a goal with 4:15 left, the Bears
survived two late Diplomat shots and forced a turnover on a clear
with less than one minute to go.
Kraus finished with four goals on the day, while junior
midfielder Pat Gillen (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) and
sophomore midfielder Jeff Ocampo (Palm Coast,
Fla./Mantanzas) had two goals in the win. Gillen and
senior attack Dan Monzo (Collegeville,
Pa./Spring-Ford) had two assists.
Freshman goalkeeper T.J. Mangani (Bear, Del./Saint
Mark's) finished with 11 saves on the afternoon for
the Bears.
The Bears didn't take the lead till 2:48 left in the third
when Kraus scored his third of his four goals on the day on an
assist from Monzo, giving the Bears a 7-6 lead. After
F&M's Tristan Miller tied the score with a goal with
11:42 left in the game, the Bears got a goal from Ocampo with 8:15
left for an 8-7 lead.
Ursinus trailed 3-1 with 4:08 left in the first quarter, before
Kraus scored his first goal of the game with 1:16 left on an assist
from Monzo. Trailing 3-2 in the second, the Bears tied the score on
a goal by Monzo on an assist from senior midfielder Tom
Walsh (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) with 10:54 left.
Defensively, junior midfielder Graig Gallo (Winter
Springs, Fla./Winter Springs) had five groundballs,
while going 8-for-18 on faceoffs.
