Men's Lacrosse comes up short in loss to Dickinson, 11-8

CARLISLE, Pa. – Dickinson, ranked 12th in Division III, ran out to a seven goal lead in the first half against Ursinus in a 11-8 win over the Bears in men's lacrosse action Saturday.

Ursinus (6-2, 1-1 Centennial) didn't give up as they went on a five goal run to get within 7-5, however the Bears would not get any closer than two goals against the Red Devils (7-1, 1-0 Centennial).

For Ursinus, junior attack Jeff Ocampo (Palm Coast, Fla./Mantanzas) had four goals and two assists, with four other players netting goals.

For Dickinson, Brian Cannon had three goals and four assists.

Dickinson took a 2-0 lead after the first quarter, and had a 7-0 lead with 3:59 left on a goal by Nick Leon.

Ursinus got on the board with 3:36 left in the half as senior LSM Tom Adelsberger (Sea Isle City, N.J./St. Augustine) scored on an assist from senior midfielder Tony Ubertaccio (Green Village, N.J./Delbarton), followed by an extra-man goal from senior midfielder Pat Gillen (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) off an Ocampo assist with 2:06 left.

In the third quarter, it was all Ocampo as he scored three straight goals, the last coming with just one second remaining on an assist by senior LSM Ernie Constantine (Bethpage, N.Y./St. Dominic), which made the score 7-5 in favor of the Red Devils.

After Christian Beitel scored for Dickinson 26 seconds into the fourth quarter, Ursinus stayed within two at 8-6 on a goal by sophomore defender Buddy Ferro (Clifton Heights, Pa./Episcopal Academy) off an Ocampo assist at 11:40 to make the score 8-6.

Dickinson would then score two more goals as Cannon assisted on a Matt Cherry goal and then scored with 5:19 left in the fourth for a 10-6 Red Devil lead.

Individually, Adelsberger had five ground balls for the Bears and three caused turnovers, both team-highs. Three different players took faceoffs, with freshman faceoff specialist Dewey Stierer (Phoenix, Md./Boys Latin School) going 6-for-10.

Sophomore goalkeeper Josh Baker (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) had 16 saves in the loss for the Bears, who host Whitter on Tuesday.
