COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus closed its non-conference schedule on Thursday afternoon with a sweep of Delaware Valley in softball play.

Game one saw the Bears capture a 6-3 win, while the Bears (22-15) broke out the bats in game two, defeating the Aggies (14-17) 16-14.

The opener saw Ursinus take a 4-1 lead after two innings, while adding two runs in the fifth en route in the win.

In game one, junior first baseman Allison Pfrommer (Frankilnville, N.J./Delsea Regional) was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, a triple and two RBI, while junior center fielder Amy Gentile (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI.

Junior pitcher Jennilyn Weber (Valley View, Pa./Tri-Valley) got the win, improving to 12-8. In a complete game performance, she struck out 14 batters while allowing nine hits.

In game two, the Bears had 18 hits as they rallied from a 6-0 deficit with seven runs in the bottom of the third inning. Delaware Valley would rally to tie the score in the top of the fourth, before Ursinus took a 9-7 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

Leading 10-7, Ursinus saw the Aggies rally with a seven-spot of their own in the top of the sixth. However, Ursinus would answer back with six in the bottom of the sixth to pull ahead for good.

The two teams combined for 36 hits and 75 at-bats in the contest.

Sophomore second baseman Monica Bonitatis (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI, including a home run. Pfrommer went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBI.

Senior third baseman Cassie Brown (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and junior designated player Emelie McFarland (Sykesville, Md./Century) each had three hits in the win as well.

Pfrommer, McFarland and junior shortstop Kelsey Coyne (Stowe, Pa./Pottstown) each had triples in the win.

Weber got the win in relief of sophomore pitcher Caitlin Whelan (Stanhope, N.J./Pope John XXIII). Weber pitched 1.2 innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out three.

Ursinus will host Swarthmore on Saturday. The Bears need one win or a Muhlenberg loss to qualify for the playoffs.
