MLax takes out Washington College, 14-6

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Nationally-ranked Ursinus (9-1, 4-0 Centennial) stayed undefeated in the Centennial Conference with a 14-6 win at Washington College (5-6, 4-1 Centennial) in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday night.

Ursinus, ranked 15th in the coaches poll and 11th in the Inside Lacrosse magazine poll, snapped a three-game losing streak to the Shoremen and are now tied for first place with Gettysburg, who the Bears will face on Saturday afternoon.

As for Wednesday's game, Ursinus went 4-for-8 on extra man opportunities, with all four goals coming in the second half. Senior midfielder Jake Weber, junior attack Steve Mussoline, senior attack Mark Stratton, senior midfielder Mike Neal and junior attack Logan Panaccione each had two goals on the night. Mussoline and Weber both had three assists on the night.

In goal, junior Brian Neff did his job, stopping 12 shots.

Starting the second quarter tied at 2, Ursinus went on a 3-0 run to take a 5-2 lead on goals by senior midfielder Ian Moore, freshman midfielder Gerard Brown and senior attack Steve Smyrl. Smyrl's final goal at 10:07 left ended the run.

Washington would get within two at 5-3, before Mussoline scored a goal with 6:25 left on an assist by senior attack Mark Stratton for a 6-3 lead.

Ursinus would outscore Washington 8-2 in the second half, with the Bears scoring four goals in each of the third and fourth quarters. Starting with the 7:51 mark in the third quarter, the Bears closed the game on a 7-1 scoring run. Weber had two goals during the run, one with 4:34 left (extra-man) and one with ten seconds left in the third quarter for a 10-5 lead.

In the fourth quarter, leading 11-6, Ursinus closed the game on a 3-0 run with Mussoline, sopohomore attack Conor Fitzgerald and Neal all scored goals during that run.

Individually, Weber had 16 shots on the night, while sophomore faceoff specialist James Fairchild went 14-for-24 from the X. Neff scooped up four ground balls, with senior defender Ryan Ridinger having two caused turnovers.
