Football Matches Program Record with 15 All-Centennial Selections

LANCASTER, Pa. – A total of 15 Ursinus football players were named to the All-Centennial Conference football team, announced by the conference on Wednesday morning.

The 15 selections for the Bears tie the school record of selections set back in 2010 during the team's Centennial co-championship season. Eight of the 15 players earned All-Centennial honors for the first time in their collegiate careers.  Four defenders highlighted the first team selections for the Bears in defensive lineman Ethan Belville and Ryan Bodolus, linebacker Brett Gross, along with safety Ryan DiVergilis. Four Ursinus offensive lineman: senior Brandon Derby, Matthew Bevan, Trey Williams, and Jake Ahmad along with running back Tony Holden, senior wide receiver Octavious Carter, kicker Dakota Wherrity, and wide receiver/kick returner Nick Schnaars took home second team honors. Quarterback Jack Psenicska, wide receiver Justin Collier, and cornerback Anthony Esposito rounded out the selections in the honorable mention team.

Belville earned his second-straight All-Centennial honor behind his most dominant season in Collegeville. He led the Centennial and is tied for fourth in NCAA Division III with four forced fumbles, ranks second in the Centennial with 20 tackles for loss, and ranks third in the conference with nine sacks. Belville has totaled 44 total tackles (26 solo), one interception, and one fumble recovery. He saved his best for the final regular season game against Dickinson by recording a career-high three sacks and four tackles for loss.

Bodolus maintained his status as one of the most feared pass rushers in the Centennial Conference by ranking second in the conference with 9.5 sacks and third with 13.5 tackles for loss. He ranked second on the team with 52 tackles (24 solo) and forced a pair of fumbles. Bodolus recorded three multi-sack efforts this season to help earn his second-straight All-Centennial honor.

Gross anchored the Bears linebackers once again and racked up a team-leading 80 tackles (27 solo) which also ranked third in the Centennial. He snatched two interceptions on the season and recorded 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. Gross led the team in tackles eight of the 10 games this season behind four double-digit tackle performances. He, like his three other teammates that made the first team, earns their second-straight All-Centennial honors.

Following a breakout 2021 collegiate debut season that saw him earn honorable mention, DiVergilis elevated his game in 2022 to be named first team. He ranked third on the team with 51 tackles (22 solo), totaled 3.5 tackles for loss, and snatched two interceptions to tie for second-most. DiVergilis also tied for the team lead with six pass break-ups while forcing one fumble out of the safety spot.

Holden emerged as one of the top and most dynamic running backs in the Centennial Conference when healthy in 2022. He opened the season with three-straight 100-yard rushing performances before an injury sidelined him for four games. Holden returned the Bears backfield for the final two games of the regular season and picked up right where he left off by rushing for a combined 192 yards and three touchdowns during that stretch. He finished the regular season with a team-leading 686 rushing yards and seven touchdowns along with posting 740 all-purpose yards.

Carter earned his second-straight All-Centennial honor behind ranking second on the team with both 35 receptions and 445 receiving yards. Carter added four touchdown receptions to his name in 2022 as he played an integral part of a loaded Ursinus receiving corps.

Bevan and Derby repeated their All-Centennial honors after helping lead a Bears offensive line that ranks second in the Centennial Conference at 449.9 yards per game. The duo have both nearly started 30 games for the Bears during their time in Collegeville and helped the Bears hold the second-most passing yards average in the conference.

Ahmad and Williams both started all 10 games so far this season for the Bears to help complete consistency on the line of scrimmage once again. The duo paved the way for a strong Bears running game that ranks fourth in the conference at 159.5 yards per game. This is the first All-Centennial honors for both lineman in their collegiate careers.

Wherrity registered All-Centennial honors for the first time in his career after already setting a few Bears records in the process. His consistently came through for the Bears on multiple occasions and he knocked through a career-long 44 yard field goal to end the first half against Juniata, which was the longest by an Ursinus player since 1997. Wherrity has gone 10-of-12 in field goal attempts this season and 47-of-50 in extra point attempts to lead the team with 77 points scored. He set the single-season record for extra points, points scored, and is poised to set the Bears career record for extra points made.

Schnaars landed on the All-Centennial team for the first time in his career in the kick returner spot. He led the Centennial by averaging 27.5 yards per return and returned a kick 87 yards for a touchdown against Juniata to open the game. It was the first kick return touchdown for the Bears since the 2016 season. Schnaars also ranked second on the team with six touchdown receptions.

He set the single-game touchdown pass record against Juniata with six and is poised to top his own program single-season passing yard record as well. He recorded at three touchdown passes in seven of the Bears 10 games this season.

His finest showing came against Juniata where he caught four passes for 120 yards and three touchdown passes. Collier's performance earned himself Centennial Conference offensive player of the week honors.

Esposito locked down one of the cornerback positions for the Bears to earn his first All-Centennial honor of his collegiate career. He led the team with three interceptions and ranked third on the team with five pass break-ups.
