Last Saturday, the Bears suffered a tough 36-29 loss to No. 10 Johns Hopkins in their home opener. Johns Hopkins reeled off 21 unanswered points after the Bears scored a touchdown on their opening drive to take a 21-7 lead at the half. Ursinus took advantage of a botched punt attempt and interception to pull within 21-20 before taking the lead back following a fumble return. Hopkins responded by taking the ensuing kick back 96 yards for a touchdown and eventually broke a 29-29 tie with a score. Ursinus had one last chance to either tie or win the game but were stopped one yard short on the goal line on 4th down.

Meanwhile, the Mules bounced back with a 34-21 win over Dickinson in their home opener on Saturday. Muhlenberg jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead in the first quarter before breaking open the game later in the second quarter with 17-straight points to take a 27-7 lead. Muhlenberg added one last touchdown to cap off the win. The Mules defense made life tough for the Red Devils by allowing just 194 yards of total offense to their own total of 410. Muhlenberg tallied 29 first downs to Dickinson having just 10 and held the ball for a whopping 39:06 of possession time. passing attack that accounted for 384 of those yards. The Blue Jays defense also performed well as they allowed just 380 yards of total offense, most of which came with the game well out of hand.

CAREER DAY: Senior wide receiver Dallas Evans had a day to remember for the Bears against Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon. Evans paced the Ursinus wide receivers with a career-high seven catches for 113 yards while scoring his first touchdown since the 2019 season finale against Dickinson. Evans went up top over a Johns Hopkins defender for a brilliant 29-yard touchdown catch. Evans missed the entire 2021 season due to an injury and has now already set season-highs in every offensive category. He will look to stay a big factor in the Bears passing attack.

ANOTHER ONE: Junior Ryan DiVergilis notched another interception for the Bears this past Saturday. DiVergilis intercepted Hopkins quarterback Ryan Stevens to set up the Bears to pull within one point of the Blue Jays in the third quarter. He now has interceptions in both games for the Bears this season. The All-Centennial performer from a year ago is one of three players in the Centennial to have recorded double-digit interceptions through the first two weeks of the 2022 season.

SCOOP AND SCORE: Sophomore Aaron Anderson once again used his big playmaking abilities to score a defensive touchdown for Ursinus against Johns Hopkins. Anderson scooped up a fumble and raced 39 yards for the score and put the Bears in front late in the third quarter on Saturday. It was the second defensive touchdown of his collegiate career after his pick-6 against Muhlenberg last season.

ALL OVER THE FIELD: Senior linebacker William Tatlonghari made a big impact on defense for the Bears against Johns Hopkins last Saturday. He totaled a career-high eight tackles (five solo) and recorded his first career sack. His presence all over the field also loomed large when he prevented a potential 99-yard touchdown run from the Blue Jays which eventually ended in the team having to punt at the end of that drive.

HIGH VOLUME: Senior wide receiver Octavious Carter was involved early and often against Johns Hopkins last Saturday. Carter caught a career-high nine passes for 84 yards against the Blue Jays and scored his first touchdown of the season. Carter is now tied for the Centennial lead with 12 receptions and ranks fifth in the conference with 159 yards receiving. He is also tied for the Centennial lead with six receptions per game.

MOVING UP THE RANKS: Senior quarterback Jack Psenicska continues to climb the Ursinus quarterback record books after his 331-yard outing against Johns Hopkins on Saturday. He moved into 9th all-time in passing yards after becoming the ninth quarterback in program history to eclipse the 4,000-yard plateau on Saturday. He also moved into fifth all-time in touchdown passes with 36 which puts him just 10 shy from becoming the program's all-time leader. He sits ninth as well in program history in completions with 316.

SCOUTING THE MULES: The Mules had a tall task at the start of the 2022 season as they had to replace All-American quarterback Michael Hnatkowsky. Hnatkowsky was the catalyst to the Mules recent run to national prominence that included three Centennial Conference championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances with one NCAA semifinal appearance. Sophomore quarterback Joe Repetti has done an admiral job for the Mules through two games by recording 394 yards while tossing four touchdown passes. His favorite target, senior All-American Michael Feaster, paces the team with nine catches for 103 yards but is still looking for his first touchdown of the season. Junior wide receiver Christopher Ardito has been impressive as well with eight catches for 88 yards and one score. The Mules also feature a bevy of running back options, led by senior Ethan Brader who leads the team with 23 carries and one touchdown. His classmate, Seth Paluck, will also get a share of the touches as he leads the team with 77 yards on the ground.

On defense, the Mules rebounded from an opening day barrage from defending national champion Mary Hardin-Baylor by limiting Dickinson to under 200 yards of total offense. Muhlenberg features strong depth across the defensive line and the back seven. Fifth-year senior defensive end Quentin Ogren is one of six players with a recorded sack this season and is continuing to be a force on the defense after earning D3football.com All-Region honors last season. All six sacks for the Mules came against Dickinson last Saturday. Senior safety Jon Lohrer has been a force in the secondary so far for the Mules by leading the team with 13 tackles. Linebackers Isaiah Lobelo and Owen Daddona anchor the middle with each having recorded a sack this season, while Lobelo paces the team with 2.5 tackles for loss.
