Men's Lacrosse Ranked 19th in Inside Lacrosse Preseason Poll

COLLEGEVILLE. Pa. - The Ursinus College men's lacrosse team was ranked No. 19 in the Inside Lacrosse Division III preseason top-20, released by the website on Tuesday morning.

The Bears are coming off an 8-8 overall season in 2022 that saw them tally a 5-3 mark in Centennial Conference action while qualifying for the conference tournament for the second-straight time it was held.

Ursinus is one of three Centennial schools featured in the poll with national quarterfinalist Gettysburg slotting in the poll at No. 8 and defending conference champion Dickinson coming in at No. 9. The two conference foes are a part of another loaded slate for Ursinus that features six preseason top-20 teams from the Inside Lacrosse poll. The Bears will take on two-time defending national champion RIT (No. 1) at Johns Hopkins' Homewood Field, York (No. 5), Saint John Fisher (No. 12), and Stevenson (No.13) in non-conference action this season.

The Bears return an experienced group headed into the 2023 season led by All-American Honorable Mention Selection, Tyler Neal. He led the team with 62 points behind 36 goals and 26 assists while ranking sixth in the Centennial Conference for all three of those statistical categories. Neal ranked third in total shots with 140 and earned All-Centennial Conference first team honors. Senior Chase Rondeau seeks to power the Bear defenders once again after joining Neal on the All-Centennial first team in 2022.  Rondeau led the Centennial with a single-season program record 35 caused turnovers and ranked third on the team with 50 ground balls. He also recorded five goals and set a new single-game program record with eight caused turnovers against St. John Fisher.

Seniors Erik Ojert and Jeremy Calabro round out the Bears scorers headed into 2023 with both setting career-highs in points last season. Ojert ranked second on the team with 42 points behind 22 goals and 20 assists while Calabro had a breakout season with the second-most goals on the team with 33 in addition to adding six assists for 39 points. Junior goalkeeper Jonathan Singer will man the pipes once again for the Bears after taking over the starter role last season full time. Singer won six games for Ursinus and posted a .543 save percentage along with 188 total saves.

Ursinus will open their 2022 campaign on Saturday, February 11th as they will travel to take on No. 5 York at 1:00 p.m.
